A month ago, I was on a Saturday morning hike. I went on a high trail on the side of a hill. What I thought were possibly coyote dens were actually something called “sandstone caves.” These are what you would see at canyons. They aren’t tunnels. They are just naturally-formed holes on the sedimentary rock wall. I have seen hikers sit in them and take pictures. But to be honest, it looks really steep and dangerous. Even though it’s not a tunnel, a rattlesnake could be still be in coiled up in them. This hiking place does get rattlesnakes, coyotes and bobcats. But thankfully not mountain lions (at least I have never heard of a mountain lion sighting at this particular nature center.)
