What else was I to do? To every race, both inside and out of the UTO, bleeding is a bad thing. So it must be wrong here too, right? I told myself this again and again as I leveled my hand around Pippy. It was hard to read his face. It was so alien when comparing to just about anything... No snout that could scrunch up, no ears to bend back, it looked like his face was squished in without a muzzle!
I tried to smile, tried offering some semblance of a helping idea to him. It didn't help, and Pippy was now squirming, but doesn't he understand I need to help him? Are these creatures so primitive that they don't want any help from aliens? Are they Xenophobic? What was I even thinking about?! I needed to focus on the task at hand, or Pippy could die!
Taking a breath, I brought over my welder. Seeing it caused Pippy to stiffen again, flinching as if realizing what I was about to do. "Calm down... Please... I'm going to burn it a little if you just stay still." With him panicking further, I finally put the welder aside. Setting it down on the grass before glancing away to let Pippy calm down.
What's to fear anyways? He's just trapped under a hand of a giant he can't understand! There's nothing to fear from that, right? But just as he looks alien to me, I must look foreign to him. Probably all of us do. There was no way that he could have seen something remotely like me... This planet is such a strange place after all...
His squirming would slow down to wiggle as he struggled against my hand. Releasing some of the pressure off from him, I gave a half-hearted smile. I was instantly wiping it from my face as I thought back to earlier. My buckteeth probably could scare him. Such an odd thought... For crying out loud, I'm a herbivore..! Then again, no real way for him to know that, huh?
It felt like hours had passed by the time I resettled my hand on him. His breathing was ragged, like a pet Doshcu when it has something caught in its throat... As I picked up the welder, its weight felt heavier than before. I then noticed why Pippy would have calmed down. I was shaking uncontrollably. No doubt my shuddering was making him panic further. Having to close my eyes to take a deep breath. I need to do this... For Pippy.
Pinned? Check. Welder on low? Check. Panic? Err... Check... I thought about how to do this for a moment. Should I run the welder and then use the heated tip? Should I fire beside his leg..? What if I hurt him? What if I made it worse?! What if they regrow their legs..? What if he knows how to fix it?! Too many questions and too little time!
Deciding to fire near his leg, I slowly brought the welder to hover to his knee. Pippy began to twitch slightly, making me hesitate once more. As he calmed back down, I would slowly press the trigger. My ears bent back as Pippy cried out, but it seemed to be working..! Somewhat... P-Pippy?! Wait!
He had gotten his leg free from my thumb. Kicking and scrambling to try and get away from me. He kicked his leg under the beam and... Oh no... Pippy?! All but throwing my welder aside, I tore my hands away from him quickly. Raising them to show I wasn't touching him. Pippy laid there on the grass, and he wasn't moving... Did I kill him?! No... He is breathing... His leg is... I burned it off... P-Pippy...?
I felt my heart jump in my chest as I quickly tried nudging him. Trying desperately to get any kind of response from the unconscious creature. A whine escaped me as I flung my welder back in its holster. Eyes snapping back to the city as I scrambled to think of what to do. Frantically weighing my options, I scooped poor Pippy up before fumbling towards the mountains... I don't want one of those Rynar to find us... Pippy deserves better than that.

I wouldn't want to be in their place. One who thinks he has fallen on an alien more disturbing than the other. and the other who wants to help, my who realize that she is doing worse than better
je ne voudrai étre a leur place. L'un qui pense étre tombé sur une aliéne plus deranger que les autre. et L'autre qui veux aider, mes qui se renscontre qu'elle fait pire que mieux

Welp. This is going to make trust tricky later. He's gonna have a hard time believing that she only wanted to help, since ya know, accidentally searing someone's leg off leaves a lasting impression. And the fact that she's worrying so much and overthinking everything isn't doing her many favors right now with how many unknowns she's stuck needing to figure out. They're both in for a lot of surprises when they finally start getting some answers. Especially seeing how similar they are right now.
Seems plausible that they have Some kind of translators since they seem to be able to keep track of things the humans have done, considering the reason the Rynar showed up in the first place. Just gonna throw out the idea that whenever they finally start understanding each other Warren's going to get the surreal experience of comforting a giant mouse because of everything that's happened. XD
Ok, maybe I've been an EMT for too many cycles, but for some reason I have a hard time believing that a trained and experienced space faring engineer wouldn't think to just heat a piece of metal then use that to cauterize the wound. I mean even silly non space faring hummies know that, and they have also figured out how to perform chemical cauterization.
