The Zaku I was the first mobile suit used by the Sukeutese, entering in service back when they were still an Ebrian colony. Given its extensive age, the type was replaced with multiple successors. However despite officially being deemed obsolete, the machine remained in limited production with many remaining as backup units in order to supplement mobile suit numbers. As well as in non-combat roles, such as removing obstacles, recovery and even civilian use moving heavy cargo at space ports.

Though many of these machines would still see frontline combat even after their third generation replacement would enter service. With some being used as replacements, while some pilots just prefer to use their older units for whatever reason.

This specific unit was a spare machine, albeit was shot down due to it’s pilot not being used to Zaku Is. Having more experience in aquatic units (mainly the Z’gok), however he would manage to eject in time. With the incident being more damaging to his pride than anything. It was painted for jungle combat, due to the planet they were operating on being mostly jungle.

And yeah, it’s an ever so slight spin so to speak on the regular MS-05. Sense technically it’s meant to be designed by a reptilian alien species in the universe. As would the rest of the mobile suits. More will come at some point to give context and such.
