Great Gut Descendant of the Pit, Living Hunger Bellious
The air hummed and crackled, rising like heat from hot pavement, as the circles began to glow as the mage focused his power to ignite them. The rats all swarmed around like a living tide, black, brown, white, grey, pulsing and writhing with sick anticipation. After so long trapped in stone and dark and dank forgotten secrets it would soon be whole again. “Remember the deal you help me kill that…. Thing and I’ll take you out of here. Not that either of us has much choice but I’d like to not die here.” The tiny echoing whispers eagerly agreed they would do anything to be be free even willingly subjugate themselves to the will of a human. But this human was strong and his energy was rich and bountiful with a flavour that it could savour for eternity.
The final ring was set and with a wordless command the swarm pooled itself onto the the centre of the spell, becoming a great mound of countless heaving vermin and scrap material. The mage directed the currents of power like a conductor leading a symphony of energy. As the spell took hold the mass seemed to meld, the rats seemingly melting into each other as a single undulating mass as energy sparked across its surface but something was off. No, something was missing. All this power and yet it seemed like there should be more like a core and this was merely the bleed. “It’s wrong somethings missing! I-I can’t…. Hold it…. It’s burning away at me I can’t sustain the spell I need to stop! It’s too much raw power I can’t force it together I’ll die and you’ll dissipate!” The quiet echos he heard every over the fragmenting spell were full of rage and threats it would not be denied. And yet there were also reassurances, praise even, he would complete this spell they would adjust. The spell neared the end and just as he was going to close the spell the hellish mass shifted and the strain eased causing an accidental outpouring of power and focus prematurely finishing the spell in a blinding flash of searing light.
The mage looked up as his vision cleared, he was certain the spell collapsed in on itself right at the end there and likely destroyed the entity. Damn how the hell was he going to get out of here now? That thing was still down here and there was no way he dared risk activating the transport pad IF he could make it work again. A cold chill passed through him, a familiar feeling and yet new, as he heard the subtly sounds of scurrying and quiet echoing laughter. That quiet laughter got closer and closer within the room and became more cohesive, no longer thousands of tiny echos but two distinct voices laughing with mad glee. He looked up and beyond the dust there they were: two giant over fed rats of scrap and cloth one heavy and vicious the other dull and twitchy like the embodiment of ten thousand rats paranoia. They weren’t all, however, as the squirming around there feet revealed still yet a few hundred large sized rats of similar make staying close and yet shifting towards the human the way only a rodent could. Seems the mass had split itself to allow the spell to finish, consuming the swarm and spreading the power over multiple bodies instead of a single one. They crept closer the laughter subsiding and replaced by their undulating speech, “ that was close, we almost…” “didn’t make it.” “Yes it seems we are not whole we need more. We…” “need our core our remains to be whole.” “My thoughts exactly.” “We will need our new friend here…” “to help us finish yes yes.” The large rats loomed over the worried mage as the small swarm covered his feet preventing him from going anywhere as his arms were grabbed. “Come now we will…..” “keep you safe, that was the deal.” “And you will finish the spell and lead us free.” “It’s been so long.” The rats eagerly carried the shocked mage off leaving the dampened room and pointing down the hall. “It’s the coliseum ant the bottom…..” “that’s where our body is.” “It’s a long walk…..” “we know the way, the traps.” “So tell us mage.” “Tell us.” “WHAT IS YOUR NAME?”
…………….
That horrible screeching was utterly drowned out by the realization of what he had found, the running, the fear, the pain in his leg and imminent horrid demise once that thing got through the door. It pale in comparison as he stood before that monstrous stone casket with the cracked lid. The ethereal remains inside radiated ancient HUNGRY power even though it had long since stripped itself and was nothing more then a seed of evil now. Nick couldnt, he fell backwards and backed away from that seething monolith of hell’s fury. Whatever it was, whatever it was trying to be again it may be worse then the abomination of demon flesh and metal he was trying to destroy. The twins noticed this and sent the swarm over to drag him back, yelling in fear and kicking at the smaller railings, “NO! Fuck this no I won’t do it! They were idiots for even attempting half the shit down here but if they were containing capturing demon lords and pit demons and shit from the void to do it then it’s a fucking miracle half this continent isn’t burning! I won’t finish the spell! I c-can’t…”
“Oh please.” “Don’t be so dramatic.” He was easily pulled back and lifted up by the twins as they pressed in from either side, their soft bodies almost moulding around his smaller frame like cushions as they whispered. “Besides we have a deal, you…” “promised you’d make us whole and we’d keep you safe.” Eyes gleaming with sick joy and yet no trace of deception or malice towards the human was there. “We will be under your contract….” “What’s the worse that could happen?” “This power will be us.” “We will be yours little mage.” Their tongues licking along his throat as they spoke, “now let’s get this…..” “over with. That door won’t hold forever.” “No it won’t.” They propped the mage up against the nearest rock, taking great care his weight wasn’t pushing down on his leg, and each made a cut along his back as they retreated to the circles around the casket with the swarm. He had no choice his motivation was clear and the threat was real but the sinking knot of dread in his gut was screaming to take the easy way out. An action he could not even do anymore.
Raising his hands he ignited the circles, the ancient carvings shining bright as if they were made yesterday, strong and clean with a kind of precision and deliberate certainty that could only come from ancient terrible works and a madman. This spell was meant to strip away power but there were certain exploitable failsafes built into it in case of emergency. He would simply use them to effectively throw the spell in reverse and use it to merge all the lost power in the rats back into a singular whole. The spell had already started while he was admiring the spellcraft, he hadn’t even noticed even as the energies built up whipping the air into a frenzied storm and energy arcs grew all around. The feeling was intoxicating and it would a terrible loss to the modern age but he’d have to destroy the spell it couldn’t be allowed to be used…… nothing down here couldnt be allowed to leave. He was snapped out of his thoughts by a burning on his back where the twins had cut him. Their laughter filling the great underground coliseum as the casket shook and crumbled as they were slowly drawn into the cracks with the scurrying swarm. “It’s happening!” “I can feel it too!” “How glorious! We will….” “Soon be complete!” “Let the spell do all the work!” “Guide the flow and just feed it!” The banging on the door became a smashing frenzy as the abomination howled and screeched, feeling all that power and starving for it. But the mage couldn’t hear it over the sounds of the whipping fusing energy as the rats laughter started to become one booming echo he could feel in his soul. “That’s it!” “Dont stop!” “It’s time….” “To make us….” “WHOLE!”
They faded into the spiralling currents as the energy funnelled into that terrible coffin, cracking and filling always with that singular booming echo until all went silent. The unnatural silence was split by the burst ofr excess energy and light along with the sound of ancient crumbling stone. There was no blinding this time, the spell was flawless in its design, only horrible terrible imminent reality. There towering above the dust and rubble stood something radiating a feel so utterly unnatural and dark it may as well have been a drowning wave. He stared up in utter terror as the light and remnants of the spell were consumed leaving the room dark but there was no darkness that could hide that single instant glimpse at something so old now made new. The colossi of a plush looking rat stood tall and stretched, four arms reaching out, tail coiling and uncoiling behind it. “FINALLY. I AM FREE. I AM COMPLETE. I AM……. NOT ME. INTERESTING. SEEMS TIME HAS TAKEN ITS TOLL THERE WAS NO SAVING THAT OLD BODY. HMMM WELL THAT BODY WAS WEAK THIS ONE…. THIS ONE….” The massive living Mountain turned its head to face the cowering human and grinned wide as it took slow deliberate steps toward him. “THIS ONE I OWE ALL TO YOU, MY FRIEND.” The human frozen in shock offered no resistance as he was picked up by two of those four arms and brought in front of the rat daemons face. It’s tongue sliding out and licking his throat just like the twins had done, the burning on his back ceased as the contract completed itself much to the amusement of the giant. “NOW NOW THERES NO NEED TO FEAR, MY LIITLE MAGE. WE HAVE A CONTRACT AND I AM A DEMON OF MY WORD. I OWE YOU A PROPER THANKS, BUT FIRST…” The door creaked as the stone around it cracked and it began to buckle inwards, frenzied screaming seeping in, “WE HAVE TO DEAL WITH OUR MUTUAL PROBLEM. THAT AND IM HUNGRY. SO VERY VERY HUNGRY!”
Bellious colossal fused demon of endless hunger and delight born from the remains of an ancient pit demon that stripped itself trying to escape its confinement. Helped out of necessity of Survival by Nix. Massive, hungry, greedy, a living embodiment of gluttony he’s a damn good chef but beware his food has quite the effect on the body and it’s all for his own benefit.
Shudder and Shake the component personalities of the true demon Bellious. Unable to fuse all the wild power spread out over the multitude of rats in the ancient lab without a core being these two were born. Shudder being the embodiment of thousands of rats hunger and greed, alway gnawing and stealing thing to keep in his pouch. Shake the embodiment of thousands of rats instinct and paranoia he’s always twitching and seems on edge, seemingly blind in one eye but i wouldn’t bet on that. They are individuals but have an UN breakable link with each other and possessed of a singular ethereal will that can draw them back together to fuse and dissolve into their true form.
The ratlings are what happens when either Bellious or the twins break down back into a swarm. Large plush rats moving as a crawling clawing tide of twisted unity. They can either reform and the twins or as Bellious complete.
