Varvara’s eyes went wide. She couldn’t understand what just happened.
“Huh?” The clown flatly uttered, looking left and right. He then asked, “Where’d she go?”, which she felt exactly the same.
Flora had suddenly disappeared. Not a trace left, the grass was unperturbed. It was definitely like a shadow creature coming from the ground, but apparently, the clown did not know.
“Yoohoo!” The clown called her suddenly. She looked at him while he said, “Where’s your friend?”
Varvara gave it a few seconds before raising her shoulders slowly. If he didn’t even know, how could she had known? Maybe it was a third faction? Aliens? Some sort of new technique she learned?
“…Huh, oh well!” The clown finally said. He then promptly moved to the side. “Let’s roll with this!”
The Torque ball, now with unprecedented size, almost to a minitruck, rolled right by him. It was moving towards her at large speed, ready to flatten her. Varvara opted to dodge, but she noticed the monster was sprouting tentacles already. With the added length, and the fact that her last attack took away her spear, meant she was wholly defenseless.
“What do I do, Zamarad!?” She waited for an answer. “…Zamarad?”
The spirit was silent.
The tentacles had already reached her body, and she barely touched the ground. It was about to grab her again, when a shine of the blade fell from above. Several tentacles were sliced and others were driven into the ground. All of them were immediately pulled, as the Torque ball rolled away from Varvara and her would be savior.
She was helped up by the hand of a blue-colored warrior.
“You good Barbie?” Asked Chester.
“…Chester! How did you get here?”
He sighed, “Long story…”
…
A while back, with the boys still on the side of the cube.
“Ah, thank you for getting me all the way here, my friends!” Chester spoke as dramatically as he could. He had already assumed his warrior form, posturing tall and proudly in front of the trio of bullies. To say that all three of them were taken in by his new presence, would be very much correct.
“Woah, dude it’s that guy!” The badger said giddily. If it wasn’t for the unstable surface, he could see the kid jump up and down on the spot. “He is like the leader of them, isn’t he?”
The leader? Since when? Chester raised an eyebrow, suddenly questioning this. This led him to further realize to himself, who was the leader of their group? Was it Flora? She kinda does all the bossing around, so technically she is one.
<Mind your audience, Chester.>
“Oh, yeah,” Chester exclaimed, before coughing a bit. “Of course! I meant,” he said, while trying to make his voice go deeper and more imposing. This is, of course, forgetting that his voice has changed to Azure’s older one. “Never fear, you young kids, for I shall lead my team, and you may leave the saving of you to me!” He then topped it off with big, confident, forced smile.
All three boys silently looked at one another. Chester felt a dry lump forming in his throat. There was a reason he didn’t enjoy performing in front of people. The first to answer was Russell, who moved closer to him, with his arms folded. Chester raised an eyebrow, expecting anything out of this opinionated bear cub.
“Why are you doing this?” Russell said.
“…What?”
“Why are you pretending to be a hero?”
Chester lightly lowered from his stance, and got lost in the question.
“…What makes you say that?”
“You really trying to save this place?” Russell questioned, clearly meaning their town. Chester, truth be told, understood what exactly he meant.
“Well, yeah, I mean,” Chester stumbled. He itched the side of his hand, which at the moment, wasn’t his. “Look, there’s like, there’s an actual bad guy, the Villain! Lord Vaco! I mean, be serious, who do you think made this!?” Chester pointed to the area around them.
“Dad says it’s pointless for you to do that.”
“…What?”
“I mean, everyone’s leaving this town,” Russell said. Chester, with Azure’s help, noticed how he looked at one of his buddies, the badger. “And really, its not even that great of a place. Everyone’s an awful person here, in some way. You sure you wanna save it?”
Chester didn’t attempt to answer this. It really was like that, huh? What was the point of saving it, for the awful people? Might as well abandon it, like everybody else had.
<Allow me.>
Chester’s mind came back to reality, and then he nodded, slightly. Without much of resistance, he let Azure take over his body. The spirit mainly focused on using his mouth.
“Russell,” Azure spoke through him, having Chester lower himself to be at the level of the boy. The bear cub was taken in, full-stop. “You and your father should not base worth on something so arbitrary, as size or condition of a town. Even if there is but a spark, a mote of light within it, that is worth preserving it, and saving it. You may not know now, perhaps, how much it truly means to you. But rest assured, that is why we are here for. We are going to defend, this place.”
Russell kept quiet. Azure really was unsurprisingly better at this than Chester. The boy didn’t care for this dump, but Azure did, even though it wasn’t his home. Or maybe, it was like his home.
“Now then, shall we think of way out?” Azure said, straightening to his full height next to thinner Kage.
The dark warrior just grunted. He then motioned for the former to get closer. Chester, now back in control, left the three. Fotia almost followed him behind, but he stopped him, cleared his throat, and then pointed with his eyes at the three boys. Fotia, understanding what he should do, resigned and returned to the three. The four of them got into conversation, apparently taken in by Azure’s words. It was really the first time they met a hero.
“So, um, ideas?” Chester asked. Somehow, there was still this aftereffect feeling of hijacking he felt, like it wasn’t his body yet.
“I shall deal with the illusionist,” Kage said. “You should help the two ladies deal with the Torque.”
“Whoah hold on, another Torque?” Chester rolled his from the news. “So, how bad is it?”
<Frankly, it is far more of a nuisance, in the future that is,> Azure scoffed.
So what’s the problem? Chester thought, feeling curious.
“I’d say the bigger threat is the clown,” Kage noted. That single phrase immediately said everything Chester needed to hear.
“On it!”
“Also, before you fight him, I’ve done research, though you may not like it,” Kage stated ominously.
“…What is it?”
“You cannot kill him with your weapons, yet.”
…
Chester focused on the blade and the wind surrounding it, giving it a sapphire shine. Then with the draws of his sword, he sent multiple slashes that traveled through the air and towards the Torque. As he came to quickly learn, it made no difference, with each bouncing off harmlessly. It then continued rolling, following right after Chester.
<It appears to have been futile. Not quite sure what you expected to happen.>
“Well excuse me for trying!” Chester exclaimed, getting out of the ball’s way. “After like the tenth time my sword swinging full of power juice did nothing, I guessed maybe trying different tactic. It’s only fair!”
“Well, well, well!” Chester looked at the clown, who was standing few feet away, with his hands on his hips and a grin on his face. “Looks like we have a new player joining in! Always love to see more people, cause, you know, I LOVE games. How about you?”
Chester, after glaring at him, turned away and proceeded to ignore.
“…Hello?”
Chester didn’t answer.
“HELLO!!?
“You know,” Chester muttered, sounding tired more than anything, “I’ve been dealing with some really annoying people. I only have energy for on of you, so stay quiet, and I’ll deal with you later.”
When Chester looked at him again, the sight nearly threw him back. The clown’s grin was wider, and his eyes became bloody-red.
“Well, this is different,” the clown gritted through his giant teeth. “And…much more fun! Ready to play?”
Chester stared at the clown, as he began making a completely weird type of dance. Squatting, jumping, and rocking, like a combination of banana on a string and a ball being hit on a floor by a toddler.
“Now, who’s ready for the next lesson!?” The clown directed it at Chester, who was still frozen in place. “When someone is talking to you, you stay quiet and pay attention! Ready? And…”
It was then that Chester saw what was in his hand. An airhorn.
“No!”
BWAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHP
Chester covered his ears, which felt like they were being directly punched. Thankfully, the horn noise ceased, but the ringing remained. Chester looked at his surroundings, finding himself very much off balance. The clown was nowhere to be seen, but then he found Barbie. He wasn’t sure when she left the sidelines, but it was good thing she turned up.
“Barbie!” He tried to call her. Even his own voice was drowned by ringing. “Barbie, I’m here! Hey!”
Barbie faced him, her ears also covered. Apparently she also got affected.
“Barbie, can you hear me?”
“Hi, my name is Green BuggyZappyPooPoo! You should look at me and not at all at a clown with a giant mallet!” she said, very much herself.
Chester cocked his head, stunned. Then he felt something heavy hit his side. He flew into the air, but got quickly caught, as both of them rolled over the wet ground. Chester coughed a bit, rubbing the sore spot, still lying.
“Thanks, Barbie.” He gave another cough and looking at her. She was clearly confused, just as much as he was, and he had no idea why. “What’s happening?”
<I dunno! But I am sure hungry! Want some mustard pie?> Azure rang in his head.
Chester became flabbergasted. What exactly did the Clown do to them? But then he finally found the clown. In his hand, the very same pie.
<Watch out! I hear the gas from it is EXTREMELY delicious!>
Chester quickly got up and readied his sword. Then without a warning, the ringing became louder, and louder, almost deafeningly loud.
WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!”
Chester plugged his ears again, and then noticed something fly at him. It was round and yellow in color, and spewing fumes everywhere. At the same time, came something black in color, and swatted it away.
Kage appeared in front of him, his daggers out. He looked at Chester, who still had trouble concentrating because of all of the noise. Thankfully, it was subsiding, just a bit. The clown laughed once again.
“We are gonna have SO much fun here! OY-Hohohohohohohoho!”
Chester looked at Kage. At this point, he was hoping to hear some good news.
“You look tired, want to take a nappy-nappy?” Kage said flatly.
Chester groaned.
