Alongside Ryle's father, Vensveth, Vulkhi was to help raise the young sergon. It was less of something he took pride in or enjoyed doing, but more a duty of his.
Towards Ryle's teenage years Vulkhi would take up the task of teaching him to fight, which included swordfighting. Vulkhi, with his centuries of experience, was the perfect candidate already. He certainly wasn't the easiest teacher to get along with however.
Ryle had rapidly lost interest in learning how to swordfight. In his stubborn nature, he would instead choose to rely solely on his magic. Vulkhi of course had argued against such a decision, but Ryle would stand firm and refuse further lessons. Instead, Ryle would spend the rest of his time as he grew up focusing on practicing his magic.

(A part of my lore less talked about, but back before Ryle and Vulkhi went their separate ways after the death of Vensveth at Ryle's own hands, Vulkhi did in fact help raise Ryle. In a way, Vulkhi was a bit like a second father.)
