So you decide to team up with a friendly alien emperor! He rewards you with giant piles of loot in his pleasure palace, and his ideology is literally "vibe". He even calls you a "Shadow" like the glorious space ninja you are.
Then that very same emperor takes his *opulent* planet-eating spaceship and bails from the solar system overnight, and all signs point to the guy becoming a nihilist evil twat. So now, the very, very, very few loyal Shadows of the Emperor that didn't just switch sides are mostly driven by stubborn denial, liquid copium, and the sunk cost fallacy. But at least some of them have cool-looking doggos to show for it. And marketable Cabal plushies!
