Tar drakes are a type of homunculus rarely seen due to their seeming necromantic origin. Actual necromancers rarely create homunculi, preferring to enlist the undead as servitors, while draconic sorcerers much prefer the company of living dragons and draconic creatures. To create a tar drake, the prospective mage requires a gallon of hot tar and the bones of a dragon, drake, or wyvern of at least Small size (the resulting homunculus is still Tiny) in addition to the normal materials to create a homunculus. Tar drakes have semi-amorphous qualities and can squeeze into small spaces, extend their natural reach, and create "pockets" in their bodies to store spell components and valuables. If pressed they can expel a cloud of hot, caustic gas if defense of their master. The major downsides are that they really are useless in the cold, and are extremely flammable.
