"Ah yes, I know the kindred that you were describing. His name is Salvatez. You've never met a member of clan Gangrel before I take it? It's quite normal for them to look like that. Boar tusks, bear claws, wolf muzzles... or in this individual's case the features of a bat. All vampires are innately predatory. But where you and I take great pains to hide it dear neonate, clan Gangrel choose to court the Beast that lurks within us all. And it shows."
"We have very little information on him given that he simply showed up out of nowhere one day. But I'm told by those who have managed to gain an audience that Salvatez is 498 years old. When a kindred reaches such an age, recollections of what it was like to be human are often so faded that they can no longer serve as an anchor for the mind. Instead our society has over time created various so-called Paths to Enlightenment. Artificial ethical codes by which we can retain some degree of sanity rather than surrendering to our inner Beasts completely."
"He walks the Path of the Beast, or the Via Bestiae as they called it in the olden days. Many of the older Gangrel you are likely to encounter who have not yet lost themselves ascribe to it. It mandates that they accept the urges that come with our unnatural existence as natural, styling themselves as apex predators of the night.
You will never see any of them invited up to one of the Prince's private soirees. They chafe at the political games so beloved by our high society, and their presence is an unpleasant reminder of the very beasthood we try to deny within ourselves."
"Salvatez revealed himself to you, did he not? Stalked you through the woods on the southern side of town but stopped once you emerged back into the city? Among his clan that is what passes for courtesy. You had unwittingly entered his territory. Rather than remain hidden, he opted to instead send you a warning. It would seem you were quite fortunate. The issue is that ever since he moved into town, what is and isn't a part of his territory seems to change on a nightly basis. It is becoming quite a persistent problem for our couriers like yourself."
"Negotiations with a man who has spent almost five centuries dedicating himself to becoming the most lethal instinct-driven killing machine he possibly can be do require a degree of caution. That is why I won't be delivering our terms to him my dear neonate. I nominate you for that task instead~ Since he has declined attacking you on sight once, there is at least a slim possibility that you will survive a second encounter long enough to convey a message. Good luck."

Another piece directly inspired by World of Darkness! This time the human(ish) form of my vampire bat character Salvatez needed an update, and with just a few minor tweaks he slots very neatly into the setting of Vampire the Masquerade. That it allows for vampires who embrace the much more animalistic and primal side of their curse is one of the parts about it that makes it appeal to me so much. It also forces unfortunate party members into situations like having to create explanations for why they invited a barefoot shirtless homeless man wearing a cape into the sect's mansion.
Once again I owe this awesome piece to
filhotedeleao and their wonderful experience with the setting! I'm on a bit of a WoD kick at the moment. Already I'm faced with a decision between Ghosts and Faeries for the next one of these...
