These next five depictions are of the Roasarch, or Roach Men, the marshland creatures who are unique to Kevica. These, like the Kerks, are the more unique races I made for Faian.
______
The swamps of Roasam is a massive inland wetland which lays between middle Kevica's mountains and another mountain range. The ancient wetlands is home to the Roasarch, a race which are closely related to the kerks in the same way as humans and elves are related. Roasarch are human-like, known for their slim figures and deep orange eyes as their most physical attributes. The Roasarch are unique in that they are bound not by clan but purely by blood, as their clans and tribes are connected by what they call The Higher Voice, a form of weak hive mind which connects them to one another. Although they still retain their individuality, the Roasarch do not communicate by tongue normally, but by expression and feeling. They are known to be abnormally silent, and will only speak to each other in brief spurts to convey complex ideals.
The Roasarch don't live in cities as much as they live in massive hive-like structures within the marshes. Roasarch take the trash and debris around them to construct their 'bedding', for which they will hibernate in to rejuvenate their bodies. It is through this process that many achieve a form of immortality, but sleep through the ages. Roasarch are ferocious predators and devour the flesh of other sentient beings, having a particular taste for humans and elf. Although the Roasarch will eat virtually anything, they regurgitate their meals in the form of an orange mucus which is used in everything from construction, to smithing, and dye making. The Roasarch are known to be uncaring towards the suffering of others, but yet also care very little about anything that goes on beyond their borders, and any of their enemies are those fool enough to enter the swamps with dark intent.
Roasarch clans are deeply divided by their small hive minds, as each clan is always vying for control of their own lands. When Roasarch form friendly pacts with one another, new hive minds can form rather suddenly, such as bonds amongst criminals or amongst fellow warriors. In ancient days, the clans were divided against one another and were petty in their beliefs and designs, up until the infamous Roach King united them against the threat of elven dominance. The Roach King, Urien Roakar, founded his kingdom and united the Roasarch into a divided but bonded realm which drove back threat after threat. Whether it be the Curdans or the Beastfolk, the Roakars had followed their immortal king who uses guile and subterfuge to win his wars. With their immortality, the Roasarch play long and devious games against their foes, with the only the Imperium of Rosarug being the empire who could truly defeat them.
