Rivdari Servitude"Forward your weapons and do not break, for your lord watches you on brave Rivdari! Know that I fight alongside you, know that you are the last defense of our homes in this land! Fight on, for Roasam! By the gods, fight on!" -Urien Roakar personally commanding a Rivdari DivisionThe Roasarch are not the only peoples native to the marshes, as the Rivdari had lived in smaller tribes and kingdoms alongside them before the elves even conceived an empire. The Rivdari were born, like all races, from a Black and White Tree of Anar, but are unique amongst the Beastfolk races to not come from the far north. Much like how the Gnolls were enslaved by the Kerks, the Roasarch conquered and enslaved them. Most were carried off not as laborers, but as living food to be feasted upon while others were huddled in their homeland to work in slave clans which would embrace the Roasarch gods and work tirelessly to appease their owners. Over time, the Rivdari adopted new customs and accepted their new faith, and remained vigilant for a time to free themselves. Yet, such a day would never come, due to the machinations of the Roach King.
Although dismissive of them at first, the Rivdari believed they found an ally in Urien Roakar, who in the later years took an interest in their abolition. Rather than continue to keep them in servitude, the Roakars promoted their vassalage instead, a scheme of theirs which bore fruit as the Roakars intermingled casually amongst their number. Some Rivdari clans even retain the Roakar name, as the custom of adoption found amongst the Kerks is also found amongst the Roasarch to a certain degree. Rather than live beside them, to receive one's surname is an honor for an adopted member. Over time, the Rivdari became honored vassals, earning a 'freedom' which saw them be elevated above food to their ever hungry masters. The eating of dead Rivdari is still common practice amongst many Roasarch nobles, even the Roakars, but the customs of the Rivdari was specifically warped to see such things as an honor than the twisted mockery of servitude they still remain under.
Rivdari warriors come from small vassal tribes which provide warriors to be drilled by Roasarch officers, and are often considered frontline soldiers. Most these soldiers are lightly armored as they cannot afford much, but the main weapon they wield are tridents and bucklers. Rivdari, much like otter folk, are natural swimmers and fishers who act as camp laborers for Roasarch armies and expendable soldiers to flank enemy forces. The Roakars instilled a form of fanatical zeal into the Rivdari over the generations, and many are brutally fanatical to aiding the Roasarch in their wars. Yet, not all such things are fully nefarious, as it is said Urien Roakar still deeply respects and admires the frog folk, having once elevated a lone division of levies who foiled an ambush upon him into royal guard who still serve as an order to in his household retinue to this day.
