Please see this old Patreon post I just made public to share with you all the moving parts and details of this overlay! https://www.patreon.com/posts/53087662
For us six Dorks who are quite often in Danger, and who stream that D&D danger live on Twitch at Twitch.tv/Draeneth, a stream overlay for such adventures was oft considered by many members of the adventuring party. Would they go on, deprived, unembellished for a moment longer?! Nay, Rhos said! And so hence forth, she worked in her free time (until minutes before the next play session) to deliver such an overlay, garnished in stained wood framing and decorated with objects that give nod to each individual Dork.
I had almost as much fun making this overlay as I did writing that paragraph, and despite it was a squeeze on my schedule to make, I don't regret it!
One of the benefits of working in an artistic field is being able to suit up my personal pursuits outside of my career with custom-made assets. When I get the chance to do that, especially when it also benefits friends, I jump at that chance.
The wooden dragon mouth at the top lights up when our Dungeon Master speaks, and each character portrait lights up around the edges when speaking as well! In combat, a character card with stats appears above the DinD logo at the bottom. In the future when we stream again, I hope to add in these details with a fun animated entrance.
Is this all overkill for a small friend group campaign? Yes. Was it worth it? Absolutely.
P.S. The map in the open screen portion of the overlay was not done by me, it is just from a screengrab of us playing in session.
