Zol is the Living miracle, the child saint for the Church of Ascension, the biggest religious organization in the known world. The Church's goal is to make everyone into a Blessed regardless of the risks, a goal which was emphasized by the experiments surrounding Zol's birth. His mother didn't make it but Zol was born with the most powerful and radiant Blessing anyone had ever seen.
Zol passively absorbs pure energy from sunlight and similar sources and store it in his body, causing him to glow. He can then use this energy for various purposes, though so far he only knows how to release it in destructive blasts.
Zol and his Blessing are revered and worshiped by the church, but behind this front he is a prisoner. Due to his lack of understanding or control over his own blessing and its destructive potential he is usually confined to his personal unlit chambers, with total darkness preventing him from accumulating energy. His father claims this isolation is to protect Zol from threats without and within the church. There might be truth in this, but the main reason is to restrict Zol's freedom and development, as his father is just as afraid of Zol's independence as he is of any outsiders stealing him away.
So, speaking of stuff I've been working on say hello to Zol, a new major character for the setting. The concept for him came about randomly back in summer but quickly caught on an now he's one of my favourite characters. His predicament lets me explore one of the factions in the world and the nature of being a Blessed more deeply, and who doesn't like a naïve, inexperienced kid with super strong superpowers he can't control?
