BTW have you ever played Stellaris together with the Gigastructural Engineering mod?
There is a Origin you can Choose named "Birchworld" Its a artificially constructed World around a Massive Black Hole and its mostly abandoned and the current residents only live on one continent on the birch world, a continent above which the shell is broken and space can be seen.
In the beginning, your people have no idea how to use the Birchworld technique. But they are sending research teams overtime to explore the hundreds of layers and find the control system. Its a very nice RP Start in den Core of the Galaxy and it reminds me a bit of your universe where your Lizards live.

That sounds really cool + similar to my setting! I definitely ought to check it out.

This looks so freaking beautiful! Like a world hiding away but still living on. Like its own independent corner of time. I love the contrast of the pleasing blue background but the main person in the foreground is a brighter orange. Super nice!
