Princess Luna was walking down the halls of Canterlot Castle. She could see several guards finishing their shifts as some bay guards took their place.
The castle was getting very quiet as the day was coming to an end. Luna took some free time and hung out some lavender as she could see her sister, Princess Celestia slowly walk towards her.
“Do you need any help with the flowers, sister?” Celestia yawned.
“Tia, I can handle this. You take care of the day things with all of those business ponies and all that stuff while I handle the dream work.”
Celestia nodded as she rubbed her eyes before one of the lunar guards approached them. The guard had dark gray fur with pale blue eyes. “Your highness,” he spoke, “The castle had been fully secure.”
“Sergeant Nightfall,” Luna said. “Good work. Return to your regular duties.” She glanced back at Celestia, who was looking rather tired. “Oh, and make sure that my sister gets plenty of rest.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Nightfall responded. The lunar guard took the princess of the sun back to her room while the princess of the night went to do her work. Luna took a look at all of the guards she passed standing guard at their posts before she walked out onto the balcony.
Using her magic, she lowered the sun and brought out the moon, making the stars still sparkle in the sky. Luna looked around before she started using her magic again, making everything around her go black before she appeared in a new space that was surrounded by what looked to be stars.
Upon closer inspection though, each of these “stars” contained the dream of all of the inhabitants of Equestria. Luna looked at all of them and kept an eye out for any kind of nightmares. It all looked very peaceful, which meant it would likely be a peaceful night for Luna.
As she looked around, she came across one dream orb that seemed to be different from the rest. Most of the dreams were focused on a pony or another creature doing something wacky. This one only appeared to show a gray plain with a black skylight. Luna was confused.
“What’s this dream about?” she questioned. “Could it be a nightmare?” Wanting to know more, Luna used her magic to enter this strange dream.
When the princess got inside it, the dream showed the gray plain to look vast and rough. There looked to be holes all over the place and it was deafly quiet. Luna was wondering where this was until she looked up and could see the earth. There was only one place she could possibly be right now.
“I’m on the moon?” Luna gasped. She didn’t have pleasant memories of being here and quickly wanted to leave, but there could be a chance of someone being trapped in a nightmare.
Luna decided to explore a little bit, only to find she was much lighter, she felt like floating with every step she took. It felt like she was swimming through water. Luna felt that walking was getting rather annoying, so she would try flying. That only ended up things worse as a simple flap of her wings, the princess started rising several feet into the air.
“I don’t remember the moon being like this,” Luna said to herself. Suddenly, a splitting headache struck the alicorn for a brief second. She groaned as she thought she remembered… Sirens that were warning her about something but she couldn’t remember. Luna soon found herself descending to the ground as she thought she saw something in the distance.
It looked bubble shaped, but it was too far to clearly make it out. Luna decided from the sky as she walked closer over to this bubble as things were starting to feel weird. There was a numbness in her horn, tail, and wings, which quickly made the alicorn feel uncomfortable.
With each floaty step, Luna’s wings would begin to shrivel up, to the point they couldn’t grant flight even if she wanted to. The princess couldn’t feel her body parts as she finally approached the dome and could get a proper look at it.
This dome was a building that had a front door that looked like it was made of metal and built to restrain a dragon. Despite this, Luna was able to open up the door, as she thought the air was starting to feel a little thin. The moment Luna walked inside the building, she instinctively closed the door behind her as she heard some hissing a speaker.
“Oxygen stabilizing,” the voice announced. Luna didn’t understand what it meant, but it felt a little easier to breathe now. Taking a deep breath, the princess of the night walked through another door, where she would find a facility that had metal floors, where her hooves clunked against every step Luna took.
The alicorn’s suddenly felt like something just landed on her head from the shift in weight. She reached for her tiara, only to be surprised by what she found. The tiara looked like it was inflating with the front becoming translucent. It started forming into a ball shape with the rest of it as it also looked to be turning white. With the front of it looking like it was made of some sort of glass material, Luna could see her reflection.
She could see her horn was so small, it was barely sticking out of her mane. Luna looked to her wings and found she couldn’t open them, they looked like they were shrivling up. Not to mention, her tail was looking shorter and it didn’t look like it was moving. Most of the time, Luna’s mane, as well as Celestia, had their manes were ethereal and constantly moved like they were constantly flowing in the wind.
The only time that this wasn’t the case was when they were still was when they were drained of their magic. Was that what was going on? Luna tried to use her magic but to no avail. She couldn’t even feel her horn or wings, which were still shrinking away. The princess tried in vain to try and use either body part, but they dwindled away until they weren’t on her body at all.
Luna began to prance in place with a panic. She had lost her wings and more importantly her magic. She had to find somebody, anybody around here! Luna ran off with her tail losing an inch in length with every step. She quickly found what seemed to be a bedroom. It had the bear essentials with basic-looking beds.
Luna didn’t focus on those details, she looked back and saw that her tail was completely gone. Her whole center of gravity was off now as if being as light as a balloon wasn’t bad enough, Luna started feeling some cramps from her hooves as she tossed her shoes off as could see her hooves were growing some kind of roots.
She didn’t know what to do. Nothing was making sense now. Luna needed to remain calm and maybe write down what was happening. Luck would be in her favor, as she found a table that had a notebook and a pen. Luna quickly got to work, opening the journal and holding the pen in her mouth, since she couldn’t use her horn that didn’t exist anymore.
Since Luna was used to using levitation to write, using her mouth was incredibly difficult and frustrating for the princess. Things got more annoying when Luna’s mane fell in front of her face. She tried brushing it to the side as noticed that her mane was getting darker. It was nice shade of indigo, but now it was pitch black. Not to mention, Luna could feel the hair-splitting apart with her fingers.
“Finger?” Luna questioned. “How do I know that word?” A slight migraine developed in Luna’s head as she remember such common words. She looked at her notes and they looked like they had been written by a toddler. Laura picked up the pen in her hand and tried writing them again on the next page.
She quickly grabbed a chair as her hind started aching while they stretched forward into her new feet. She curled up her toes as they felt like they had been stuck together for hours. She wished there was some point she could just go for a long walk, but their base was only so big and she couldn’t explore the moon without her gear.
Laura held her head as she kept feeling like something wasn’t right. Her muzzle slow starting shrink back into her face as all of her blue was almost gone. Her sharpening teeth gave her a craving for some meat, but the food that had on there wasn’t the best quality to what was on earth.
She rubbed her eyes as her ear shrank away and she lost the last bit of her equestrian features were fading away. The last bit of her blue fur didn’t fade away. It turned into a skintight jumpsuit she wore underneath her spacesuit, helping to keep her body temperature under control in the vacuum of space. Laura groaned as she felt like her breasts and rear were squashed. Laura felt so strange as she looked at her journal. That strange dream she had, she didn’t know why but… It felt so real.
“Laura, are you okay?” asked a voice. The woman looked back to see a man, in a jumpsuit similar to hers. The black–haired man caused the woman to remember details about him, such as his name.
“Nathan, I didn’t know that you were already finished with the solar panels,” Laura spoke.
“We finished early,” Nathan stated. “Turns out one of them was just covered with dust.” Laura held her head as she felt like she just had a headache. “Captain, are you alright?”
“I’m fine it’s… Just probably some dream I had.” Laura almost thought she saw a horse-bat-hybrid when she looked toward her fellow astronaut.
“Laura, are you feeling okay?” Nathan walked over and sat down beside her as he felt a little concerned.
“I think this was just some kind of dream I had.” Laura groaned as she rubbed her eyes.
“Did you sleep long enough? I know we’ve got schedules but you shouldn’t push yourself.” The woman looked dizzy as he thought of something. “You didn’t have any nightmares recently, have you?”
“What? No! I’m…” Laura yawned as her fatigue was making itself known.
“Laura, you need sleep. What if you forget something important and it puts your health at risk?”
“You’re right. It’s just… This dream felt so real.”
“I know what you mean. I had this strange dream about some bat horses.”
“Seriously? You’ve got to tell me about that.”
“After you get some sleep.” Laura grinned as she stood up and walked to her bed.
“You sound like my sister. Always worrying about me.”
“Kind of feel like a compliment being compared to the president. Right now, let’s make sure you’re fully rested.” Nathan helped Laura to her bed and got her comfy. “I’ll try to make sure that you don’t sleep in for too long.”
“Thank you, Nathan,” Laura muttered. She felt too tired to say anymore and fell asleep at once. Nathan simply left her to her rest as the lead woman slept and drifted off into her dreams.
