The winter season always brings with it an atmosphere of peace and relative calm to the witch's forest, the trees, the bushes, and all of the other flora save for the evergreens having all gone quiet and still as they fall into a deep slumber for the better part of the next few months, awakening once more when the frigid chill and polar storms give way to the warmth and brightness of spring. Most of the wildlife have either hidden themselves away into their dens and burrows and the like to hibernate, or have departed south to find habitats much better suited for them to wait out the colder times until it becomes comfortable enough for them to return again. It becomes especially calm and quiet out in the woods during the night, and as usual there's hardly any animal stirring during the especially late hours as they take shelter from when it gets especially cold out during this time. All except for one, of course...

The witch gives a soft sigh as she lays there within a lake that hasn't quite frozen over yet, basking in the light of the moon while she tranquilly and silently floats atop its surface, letting the ebb and flow of the currents aimlessly carry her where they may, small waves lapping and washing over her in a steady, almost rhythmic repetition. While swimming about in and immersing oneself in the still bitterly ice-cold waters would surely lead to quite a few particularly nasty situations involving drowning and severe hypothermia, Senna doesn't even seem bothered by it in the slightest. Blessed with a natural immunity to the harsh cold by the spirit of the season, she's able to endure even the harsh chill winds and occasional blizzards without any trouble at all. Even braving the freezing waters of the lake during the winter is no challenge, to her it's hardly any different from simply taking a nice and especially refreshing bath.

With another deep-sounding huff, her breath not even forming any vapor from hitting the air as she exhales, the witch closes her eyes only briefly for a second or so before opening them again and directing her attention towards the sky while she rides at a leisurely pace along the currents. It's an especially lovely night out tonight... not a even a single stray cloud to be seen, and the normally deep, inky blue of the unfathomable vastness above was quite bright and vibrant as all of the stars were out in full force. The bright lights of the crescent moon and the scattered luminous clusters hanging above made the water, the pine trees, and all of the snow blanketing the shores around her sparkle and glisten with a wondrous faint golden sheen, a sight that she doesn't really see all that often despite having lived through thousands of winters throughout her lifetime thus far. It's during times like this that Senna has learned to simply just let herself live in the moment, to savor and appreciate moments like this for however long it may last, as there's no telling with any certainty when something like it might happen again, if ever.

And that's exactly what the witch does, simply basking and drinking in the complete serenity and quietude of this beautiful night, casually and playfully tracing pictures and patterns within the stars with clawed fingers, recalling distant yet relatively clear memories of the bedtime tales her parents would share about all the creatures both familiar and strange that inhabited the deep blue sky. All while she wears a faint yet undeniably and unfalteringly content smile on her face...

An incredible and just absolutely gorgeous commission piece that I got done from a good friend of mine featuring my favorite weird woodland witch-druid hermit child Senna, though this time she seems to be sporting a different kind of look from the usual! This is actually the very first artwork I got to show her brand new seasonal winter design, which was actually inspired from a comment that another friend made on a past work that gave me the idea of Senna actually having different designs and forms that she takes on depending on the season! For the winter time, her fur turns from brown to white and blue-gray to better blend in with the snowy environment around her, she becomes more or less completely immune to the effects of extreme cold, and she attains quite a few other interesting little perks as well when she takes on this special seasonal form (will be explained more in detail in a later post). Needless to say, it's actually quite a pretty new look for her, and I definitely hope to get at least a few artworks done of her in with this winter-themed design while the season is still ongoing!
That aside, though, I'm really just so impressed and in love with how absolutely incredible and beautiful this piece really came out and how it captures that peaceful yet mystical and ethereal vibe. The brightness of the moon and the night sky above, the way the waters below sparkle and shine as the stars are reflected in them, the glistening snow and the hints of the pine forest all around, and the way Senna seems almost siren-like with her expression and pose as she floats there on the surface... It really feels like being out in the forest in the middle of a quiet winter night, and all is still and peaceful as Senna spends the night bathing in the freezing waters of the lake and basking in the beauty and wonder of her surroundings. Just really enjoying this time of complete and utter calm as she so pleases... And her bright blue eyes and soft-looking gaze feel like she's trying to draw you in, quietly beckoning for you to come and join her there in the lake, though rest assured doing so would most certainly be very ill-advised! All in all, I simply adore everything about this piece, the lovely composition, the gorgeous contrasts of the shadows and the light coming in from the moon up above, the colors and the amazingly done detailing in the texturing and render work, and how smooth and pleasant looking it all feels... I'm just so happy beyond words at how incredible this piece really came out, and the artist did an absolutely stellar job with running with the idea and bringing it to life in such an amazing way~ <333
