Edit2: Made some size changes based on suggestions from my teachers.
Edit: Had a bigger file for you guys, but FA seems to have resized it, sorry! Will post a close up of Arnav in color tho!
This is a revamp of a creature I designed in school(you might remember him: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2026770/), for a character design class. I intend to do a sculpture of him too with sculpey. This might be selected for my graduating exhibition in May. The biggest change is the color. I just went for a more natural palette, loosely inspired by lionfish colors. Ditched the DERP AQUATIC FANTASY CREATURES=BLUE thing.
Those of you who watched me back in the day probably remember my horned feline characters called the Nimrajh. This would be another, only an aquatic form. He is also a bit of a play on the merlion creature, only with a pretty horn that has an electrical current to paralyze prey in close proximity.
I would like to point out he probably wouldnt stand up so straight on the side view, but it was done this way to make it easier for use in 3dsmax when building our creatures in 3d.
The background was made by myself with tea and watercolor. I wanted an old scroll look, so I made the 3 views sketchy and used a latin script font. Used a new painting technique too, still learning :D-bare with me.
PS:Starting school again tomorrow. Will be scarce online for another 4 months. :D

Thanks for the input , it is a good point and I do agree on many levels. I suppose it depends on how close to science you want to get.
A few things that came to my mind when drawing him were the following: He isnt exclusively an underwater creature (no blow hole, or gills, Hed have to come up for air like a otter). He has foreharms and can drag himself about on land for periods of time. I thought about marine otters and insulating polar bear fur when adding the fur to his body. These were also assumptions made on the basis he lives in colder waters, and he isnt that fat protected like a walrus or whale. He surely doesnt need to be a speedy underwater creature since hes got that electrical current/paralysis thing going for him. But In the end, I was going for a fun fantasy creature, and not really 100% biological accuracy. Even the current thought process I just explained for the creature can be trumped by science.
Thanks again!
Totally understand that point and you're right haven't thought of a polar bear.
but like you wrote in the comment for the detail picture you could reduce the fur detail abit without loosing realism ^^ But this may be personal taste.
(I'm german my english is really bad so no need to apologize xD )

That is true, I suppose. Id need an example to know how much, or even of the technque. Because the way I understand how to render is in layers and levels of color from dark to light like an acrylic painting. If Im not building up the texture everywhere per color, it might look patchy and lacking in some places.
Ill experiment, thank you.

oh ok! sorry for assuming. its just at school and sometimes online someone always goes "that reminds me of *insert artist name*"..... and I feel like i need to bend over backwards trying to be original now when really im just trying to be me 9.9
Epic? Thanks XD, I was just following instructions. At school in class they suggest we make a dynamic rendered pose and 3 basic views.

oh thanks, haha
Im actually quite paranoid about my digital coloring, I never know if it has that cheesy "bad" photoshop look or not XD
I havent abandoned traditional art, its just cheaper for me right now since im still in school
I look forward to seeing that.
