By the Light of the Electric Moon - SFW Version
Thunder rumbled in the midnight air. The faint smell of electric petrichor suffusing the air with a calm charge of an upcoming storm. Yet, the moon stood undaunted from behind the clouds. Its soft light radiating down between the black masses gathering in the sky.
Rygone walked at his own pace down the path. Aimless in his destination and mind occupied with the toils of life.
He barely noticed the flashes of light in the distance. Heralds of the gathering black flags and warm dry rain. Why he was out at this hour was beyond him. The young man just knew that he couldn't stay at home. Something compelled him to restlessness and walking alone outside felt infinitely better than pacing the spaces within his small apartment.
Tingles raced up his skin as his heart beat faster within his chest. Every wandering step did little to calm him down. Instead, he felt exactly the opposite. He felt on edge. Energized by an electric current that flowed through his nerves with rapid glitching sparks.
Why did he feel like this?
Breaking out into a run he pounded the dust beneath his sneakers with absent care. He had to release some of this tormenting energy. He just had to! The young man could feel it burning just beneath his skin, each rumble of thunder causing it to flicker with unspoken force. Teeth chattering as his lungs huffed at his sudden pace, he closed his eyes as he tried to feel nothing but the pace of the road beneath him.
Crackooom!
Lightning split the sky above the running man and he gasped in terror as he was forced to look up at the angry sky.
And there it was. Majestic and regal, it hung between grey curtains with a piercing yellow glare. Its ancient eyes staring down at him between black wisps of thundered smoke.
A shock ran throughout Rygone's body and something rumbled back at the overcast sky from within him.
Connection. The power of thunderstorms.
Electricity arced along his skin in small flashing sparks as his eyes stared transfixed at the moon's shrouded glow. A crackle crossed the sky, an after-image of the sky's deadly trees dancing across his vision as crimson crept into the edges of Rygone's sclera.
"Lux...ray." he growled as his body slowly tensed under the light of the midnight orb above. He could feel it. Something was happening.
Tears stung at his crimsoning eyes as he felt his fingernails pushing out and his teeth sharpening as he bit down in cringing pain. His muscles jerked with uncontrolled spasms as electricity zapped both within his body and from his skin. Every punishing current drawing up fine hairs that wavered in the warm night air.
His body swelled as his joints cracked with uncontained pressure. Clothing strained underneath his bulging form before slowly, steadily, threads began to part as stitches gave way to reveal blue and black fur.
Rygone grunted as his shoes felt tight upon his unfamiliar feet and with a harsh growl he could feel his sneakers split apart, new digitigrade leonine paws shaking off the rubber rags to pad into the soft dirt below him. Heat burst at his body as his skin was covered in fur, his rough tongue panting as claws tore at his hoodie in long tearing strokes.
The sounds of the oncoming storm grew louder as the man's ears stretched upwards to the sides of his head, a black mane wrapping around his neck and crown with yellowed streaks.
His nose wrinkled in pain as his jaws cracked forward in halting steps, blue fur rushing past his lips to cover his quickly dehumanizing muzzle. Paws grabbed at his head as soft red pads swelled upon his puffy fingers and palms. Behind his body, near the small of his back, Rygone could feel a straining wiggle digging at the hem of his pants. Before he could try to relief the pressure a new star tipped tail burst apart the cheap material to wave slowly about the crackling werebeast.
Golden pupils glanced across his body. Was it done?
Power flowed throughout his changed form. No longer was he restricted by a false humanity. Instead he was a mythical leonine beast, one released by the moon and storm above... a wereLuxray.
"LUXRAY!" He howled to the charged sky above, his low regal voice met with a cacophony of lightning!
And so he padded off into the night just as the first drops of rain began to fall upon the rags of clothing left behind. The only sign that he had ever once been human at all.
A majestic piece and one that I'm honestly quite fond of. I have never been the biggest fan of the classic werebeast genre, the concept overdone in many example of mainstream media, often to lackluster results, but I have to admit there's a simple pleasure in the transition of man to beast by the circumstances of their environment. Turning into a wereLuxray, for me, is simply icing on the cake.
