I'm sorry. For you in this instance, but also for all of us who are left behind while they go on before.
Very few of the usual platitudes move me (especially anything involving the term "rainbow"), but I read a lovely remark recently, which stuck with me. It went something like,
When a dog dies, they take a part of our heart with them.
But they also leave a part of their heart with us.
I hope to live long enough for my heart to become all dog.
I guess your heart has become an awful lot more dog.
