vanished for a few days to work on this
As I start production for dance with night I wanted to have some nice backgrounds that I could reuse whenever I pleased.
This started off as a concept for our wizard's hut, though looking at it now I'm thinking I need the old building to look a little more run down, as the reason for Cassius being there is in part because their old wizard vanished.
I'm thinking a little more dilapidated, a little more overgrown, maybe a nice little cave in, or a tree has landed on it.
was really nice to work on something like this though, and good practice for the future.
This will be this month's print... not my usual work, but I hope you'll humor me ^^

Tree landing on it is a good indicator of time passing, but to really make it noticeably a former wizard cottage how about the roof damage is minimal because the trunk of the tree snapped in half and both halves took root and started to grow again from the snapped trunk. :D
Just touches on perhaps now finally worn down defense spells having once been enough to not just protect the cottage from the hit but actually try and incorporate the fallen tree into the roof to 'heal itself' but it was to weak to really manage it.
Just illustrates something however slightly 'more' or 'off' about the cabin rather than it being allowed to go to ruin naturally.

Depending on how much time has passed, you could also have saplings growing out of the thatch - maybe something obviously magical/supernatural if you want to give more of a nod to the wizard who used to live there.
I love seeing landscapes like this done by artists. There's something really satisfying about a well-crafted background.
