Now heading towards the later stage of his career, the jaded man will be taking his missions with a more pragmatic outlook than what the Odraani Paktum's regulations would stipulate... and hoping that one day, the Kamrilli incident will be brought to light. Even if he has to take it on his own hands.

Ooooh, I'm intrigued... perhaps someone who had lost a loved one too in that incident, or ex servicemember involved in the investigation whose career was ruined by the Navy's brass who wants to keep the whistleblowers silent? They'd be kindred spirits with this deviant of a man~
The latter. A mortician specialist who was tasked with dealing with the remains of the crew. Among his assignments was to burn away the corpse of a certain victim who loved water, as he learned from a recovered tape recording. After burning the body, he started having severe hallucinations to the point he became convinced that he was haunted by the angry spirits of the victims he "scrubbed". His breakdown would lead to him getting detained and eventually medically discharged.
Oh damn, I don't think the Paktum would be callous enough to dispose of every body they can find in there given that their reasons of not disclosing it to the public is to prevent traumatic stories from reaching the families... but that sounds pretty interesting
He could be someone who personally did the autopsies to the (intact) bodies of the victims and was so disturbed by the injuries and deaths he found, among other recordings and writings he was exposed to, that he starts having fits of hallucination
Like seeing an eyeless, emaciated reptile shuffling towards him asking for help... or blaming him for not being able to save him... and he eventually had a terrible breakdown and is left to eke out a meager career as a civvie while living with the trauma. He now lives with a great disdain for the Paktum government.
Very much like Lei, who's still having fits of emotional breakdowns from seeing his fiance's mangled, frozen corpse being carted away from the scene with that gaping expression frozen to her face forever...

A fair point. I do like what you bring up though and it still fits the main idea I was going for. Another plot point I had for him was visiting the temples of the various faiths practiced by the victims he tended to in some desperate attempt to find peace through them. Maybe he ends up like Benny from The Mummy where he carries charms from every single faith he visited.
