Welcome to the famous Smuggler's Cove on the South Shore of Nova Scotia.
The cave that you see at the base of the cliff was a drop-off / pick-up spot for the folks who were involved in the bootleg rum trade that flourished along Nova Scotia's coastline back in the legendary rum-running days. Matter of fact, there is a brand of rum called "Smuggler's Cove" in homage to those rum runners.

It was probably easier to navigate than it looks in this photo. The mouth of the cove is wider than it looks like here, and it's apparently quite deep at high tide. The trick would have been avoiding that rock near the cave's entrance at low tide. Or so I was told...
