Welcome to Fort Anne in the pretty Nova Scotia town of Annapolis Royal.
Built in 1702 by order of Charles de menou d' Aulney, leader of the French forces occupying the area, Fort Anne was captured by the British during the war of Spanish Succession, and the British occupation was confirmed when the Treaty of Utrecht was signed in 1713. In 1917, Fort Anne was named the first National Historic Site in Canada.
The stone structure in the foreground is mostly underground; it served as a place to store food for the fort's inhabitants during the winter.
A historical-themed Crossfolf Camera Presentation.

I was in the car with a relative who wanted to see the bridges outside of Gettysburg. Even though I don't live that far, I hadn't visited yet, so I had no idea where the actual battlefield was. All of a sudden, we're driving up a steep road and I started seeing historical markers and then I realized we were driving up Little Round Top. I started freaking out, the fact I was on a major Civil War battlefield and that I had more or less stumbled upon it. After we saw the bridges, we went back and explored. I'll never forget that!
