When I still played the game back before 2007, I enjoyed playing as the Lotus Clan, massing Master Warlocks and blasting my foes into bits, but I almost feel sorry when I have to waste these chunky guys.
Huh, what more if they were scalie anthros? Turn Battlerealms into a furry game.
Most people who play the game, know these guys throw salt when they are idle, it's also their hidden passive which increases allies' resistance for a short time.
They also wear their cannons as helmet sometimes.
Unlike the practice sketch, I got rid of the chest hair because it didn't come out right. I also redesigned the ammo to match the mortar mouth size.
I created new brushes to give me a kind of Ghibli background, especially the grass which I basically drew each blade here.

My hands were always so heavy, so my tablet gets rather deep scratches, even when I have turned up the pen pressure sensitivity to the max.
These guys are actually from the Dragon clan, not the Lotus clan, guess I should edit the description to be clearer. ^ ^
