CHAPTER 19
At that time, Jhonny Carruthers and Vera were already at the Amistad airport, accompanied by Chakat Lorna and hys parents Barelius and Dornay. Both engineers had stayed overnight at their Chakat friend's house, just like in Dewclaw's day.
After spending a few days in Amistad, after returning from the moons of Chakona, the couple would finally return to the Bonifacio continent. Vera had invited Jhonny to her parents' house for a few days in New New York, before he returned with his mother in Eucla City.
"It's a pity that Esteban and Lilethe couldn't come to say goodbye to us" Vera suddenly said with a melancholic tone.
"Yeah, when I called him an hour ago, he was worried about the Renzars," Jhonny said.
“Mrs. Sorah's father doesn't seem like a very nice guy,” Lorna added.
"True. I guess not all Renzars are equally nice” replied Jhonny.
“I just hope that matter is resolved soon for Sorah. She is so sweet…” Vera commented.
“Guys, your flight is about to leave. You'd better go to the boarding area” Chakat Barelius said suddenly, looking at the time on the portal.
“Vera, Jhonny, have a good trip. Let us know when you arrive in Bonifacio, please” Dornay added in a motherly tone. Lorna hugged them very excited.
“I love you both very much! Johnny, don't be nervous. Everything will be fine with Vera's parents” Said the chakat.
"Thank you Lorna. Shir Dornay, Shir Barelius. We will notify you when we land in New New York” Jhonny replied.
After the affectionate farewell of the chakats, the couple headed towards the boarding area, each dragging a small suitcase. After the rigorous checks, they finally boarded the aircraft, taking their assigned seats. They both looked at each other and gave each other a tender kiss, happy to return home together.
In one of the halls of the Capitol Building, located in the Chakonian Government Center, an important meeting was taking place between the delegation of businessmen and politicians recently arrived from Grom and local chakonian authorities. The Renzar, commissioned by the Gromnian Planetary Council, together with the Planetary Delegate, had the objective of strengthening commercial relations between Grom and Chakona, as well as the bonds of friendship and brotherhood between both worlds.
Avik Grovem, Sorah's father, had an important position as a delegate and businessman in the mining industry. His mission was to fine-tune the details for the settlement, at Chakona, of the first GIC Gromnian Institute of Commerce headquarters, outside of Grom. This would allow Chakona students to take the same courses taught at the Renzar's planet headquarters, without having to travel there. This would bring great benefits to all those who wanted to perfect themselves in commercial engineering of all kinds.
In the hall, several presentations and debates were held, and the first drafts of the agreements that would be built during the Chakona work week were drawn up.
At one of the desks, Avik was concentrating on the details of the Institute's operation when suddenly, another of the Renzar present in the place approached him.
"[Well, my... Look where you've come... Working side by side with the Planetary Delegate]" Avik looked up to see a brown, elegantly attired Renzar approaching him.
"[And what did you expect? It is a consequence of hard work. No of gifts]”
“[I'm not saying otherwise, Avik. You sure earned it]"
“[And what about you... Dolkun Trodem? Are you still the Patriarch of the local Community?]”
“[Heh heh heh… Grrr… Very honored to be so]”
"[I didn't know you were also invited to the meeting, old friend]"
“[Heh heh heh… Of course. The Chakonian government always consults us when it comes to matters involving the Renzar community. Eh... It's good that you still consider me a "friend"]"
“[Don't trust it, Dolkun. I only said it out of courtesy… I still haven't forgotten that you refused to help me when Sorah decided to emigrate from Grom]”
“[Grrr… Are you still doing that?.. I thought you would be here when your grandson was born. At least you already met him?]”
“[Dolkun]” Avik suddenly said, turning off his PADD and standing up. [“Just because you're the patriarch of this small community, doesn't mean I'm accountable to you. My family is my business]”
"[And every member of the great Renzar Community of Amistad, that's my business, Avik]," Dolkun finally said. Avik stared, then left the room in silence. The Renzar delegates and the local Chakat negotiators had finished the preliminary work sessions, to continue the next day. The tabby Renzar headed for the exit. His assistant, Droquen, didn't take long to sit next to him. Both went out to the main hall of the building, and then to the outside, where seven tall columns reminded the leaders that Chakona had in the times of the first settlers.
“[Grrr… I'll go back to the hotel to rest. Take the rest of the day if you want]” The businessman grumbled badly.
"[how you wish"] The faithful bodyguard answered seriously.
Chakastra was already rising to the zenith. On Topaz Beach, Relia was walking slowly aimlessly. She had left the hotel where she had stayed the night before. She was still shocked by what had happened. Tears clouded her vision and from time to time, she had to wipe them away to see better.
She crossed the street and went down to the beach. As it was a rest day, at that time there were many people in the place. Chakats, morph, skunktaurs and various other species were enjoying the weekend. Relia continued her march across the arena, paying no attention to her surroundings. Although the day was bright, and she was surrounded by people, for Relia there was only darkness and loneliness. Every once in a while she would sigh, filling her lungs with the cool breeze from the beach. But the feeling of not wanting to be there, at that moment, in that place, became heavier. Anguish, hopelessness, were her only company at that moment. She tried to think rationally and make a mental balance of how many credits she had left, to return to Terra, although the idea of hers did not excite her either. She knew that she had to return to the residence where she was staying, but she wasn't sure how to do it.
Relia thought about turning to Regthar, but after Cala's assault, she didn't know whether to continue trusting the Renzar. She paused and sat down on the sand. She was still wearing her evening dress. The little bag in which she brought her things and her bathing suit, she put it aside. She took out a wide-brimmed hat and put it on her head to protect herself from Chakastra. Watching people live their life and enjoy it on that beach made her feel even more miserable. She definitely wanted to disappear.
As she vegetated on the spot, her body began to feel hungry. She hadn't had any breakfast before leaving the hotel. But she had no mood to eat or drink at that moment. She picked up her legs with her hands and leaned forward. She put her head on her knees and began to cry again. Her wide hat prevented people from noticing her sadness.
After the incident with Avik, Sorah had entered the master bedroom. The surprise of seeing her father again and the sadness of knowing that he had not changed his way of thinking broke her heart. She was sitting on the bed, looking longingly at the old photo album she kept from her marriage with Regthar. A multitude of memories returned to her mind when looking at those images. At that moment there was a knock on the door.
“Sorah? I can pass?"
"Yes... Yes, of course, Lilethe" The female replied, wiping away her tears. The skunktaur walked over to her and sat on hys haunches, next to hers.
"What have you got there?" hy asked with interest.
“It's… It's just an old photo album…” The Renzar replied. Lilethe, knowing that the best thing for Sorah at the moment was to vent to her, placed her hand in hers.
"Why don't you tell me about those photographs?"
"Lilethe... I, apologize to everyone for what happened... I hope that..."
“No mom… Don't apologize… Forget it. You haven't done anything wrong."
“But Regthar…”
“Dad I act like anyone who defends his family would…Maybe a little impulsive. But that's him, right?"
"Heh... Regt has always been a fighter."
"Sorah, tell me, how did you meet him?"
“Heh heh… It was at a tournament in Khudok, in the city of Ramthur, the capital of Gromnia. That day I escaped with some friends to the city gym to go see the males that were competing. Heh heh… We really didn't care about the tournament. We wanted to see the males compete... They looked so sexy in those outfits! Lilethe. Dad, as a good member of Grom's elite, considered the Khudok to be for wild people, for those who hadn't built a better future for themselves. He never liked that sport and despised those who practiced it…”
"And so... that's where you met Regthar?"
"Yes, when I saw him for the first time, with that striped loincloth, and his image of an Acro'th warrior, he captivated me, more than the other fighters"
"And did you talk to him?" Lilethe asked excitedly.
“Oh nooo… I was very shy… But from that moment on, I started going to all the tournaments where he competed. I followed him all over the city heh heh… But on one occasion, I mustered up enough courage…
“It was on a date in the regular Ramthur tournament that Sorah approached me. She entered the dressing room as if nothing had happened. I… Well… It's not correct for me to say it, but at that time, I had a lot of fans. And it was very common for the females to approach me after each fight... And well... You know... Grom is a planet full of females and we Renzar also know how to have fun heh heh..." Regthar said as he drank a sip of Grom's liquor in the Lorel’s Bar.
"I don't have to imagine it ha ha ha!" Esteban replied thinking about his adventures with Natany and Sorah.
"But tell me, what happened next?"
“Well, she came up to me… She stroked my member… She looked me in the eye… And she whispered things in my ear. I was fascinated by her beauty. We kissed… And well… Heh heh… You can imagine what came next.
"Heh...heh…"
“Well, honestly, I thought at first that Sorah would be a passing fling, like others. But she started showing up at every tournament. She followed me around town for the whole season!! Her perseverance and her decision ended up conquering me. Of all the females I had met, I knew that Sorah Grovem would be for me… And I for her…”
"Awww... That was so cute Sorah... You finally didn't let it get away!"
“No!... I wasn't the only one interested in Regthar back then. There was a lot of competition! He was a very desirable male! But it's true… I caught him… Even now my Renzar friends envy me for having him with me and making him the father of my children. Heh heh heh... Also some of Natany's friends envy me... But after all these years, I'm happy I chose him. He has stood by me through good times and bad. He is a real Renzar!”
"Yes he is! He's a very cute and sexy specimen heh heh… Thanks to him, I've learned to appreciate the Renzar” Lilethe said blushing.
“Heh heh… But it wasn't all joy. When I told dad that he had chosen my patner. He didn't like the idea. He expected me to pair up with someone from Gromnian ton, a high school graduate, or a merchant. At that time, I was studying to start working in the family mining business, and be part of the great clan of uncles and cousins who supported the company. But I didn't want that life for myself. I was not interested in wealth and status. I just wanted to be happy with the Renzar I had chosen. The only one who supported me was ironically… My mother”
"Your mother? Avik's wife?"
“No… They never married… You see, Lilethe, in his youth, my father had an affair with a night dancer from the city. Her name was Varta. And from that adventure, I was born. Mom was always a very liberal person. My father's family was shocked when they found out that he had gotten Mom pregnant. They were not allowed to be together, and because they felt that Varta did not have the means or status to raise me, Dad took me to live with his family. Mom walked away and continued her life. When I grew up, she would visit me from time to time. Honestly, I didn't feel very attached to her, because I didn't grow up next to her. But I must admit that she was the only one who supported me when I decided to marry Regthar."
"Oh... I see... So they couldn't be together either..."
“And dad wanted to do the same to me, arguing that I deserved better. Finally, upon reaching the legal age in Grom, Regthar and I were married. It was a simple ceremony. No one from my family attended except Varta. I never forgave my father for that."
"Oh wow..." Lilethe said, imagining that scenario.
Avik never gave his approval for the wedding. On the day of the ceremony, no one from Sorah's family attended except her mother. From my family, my elderly father and my sister Natany accompanied us. Some friends of Sorah's and wrestling league buddies of mine. Although Sorah's face radiated happiness, I could see her sadness in her eyes,” Regthar said with a lump in his throat.
Esteban was silent. He knew that Lilethe, at that very moment, was next to Sorah, listening to the same story. Their mental connection was charged with emotions. After a pause, Regthar continued:
“Avik never accepted me. He has always thought that I am a “little thing”. Grrr… I took a technical course in construction Esteban! That's why I worked in that area at Grom. When I moved in with Sorah, I worked for a construction company in Ramthur. We didn't earn much, but it was enough to cover our needs. We were happy. And we were even more so when our first son Tanyio was born” The Renzar finally sighed.
"Dad... When Tanyio was born, didn't Avik change his attitude towards your relationship with Sorah?" Esteban asked.
“I thought he would. But not. He was just going home to see Tanyio, completely ignoring me. I could never like him... I never cared about that..." Regthar closed, but Esteban knew that this was not true. He could subtly pick up on Regthar's frustration at not being able to get along with his mother-in-law. It made him think of his own father, Joseph, and how his recent visit might turn out. He looked at Regthar and gradually understood what Vroeg had told him long ago: "Parents always forgive their children and children their parents."
Avik and Droquen finally arrived at the beachfront hotel. The tabby Renzar locked himself in his room to rest, while his assistant sat at the restaurant to enjoy a drink. After hesitating for a moment, he went up to Relia's room. Upon arrival, he knocked on the door. A Chakat maid leaned in, indicating that the room was empty. The Renzar returned to the lobby and approached one of the attendants.
"Eh... Excuse me Shir"
“My name is Chakat Blukast. How can I help you sir?"
“Eh…Shir Blukast…Room number 65…There was a lady…Relia by name. Do you know if she… Is still in the hotel?”
"Hmm... Let me check" The Chakat answered before checking hys PADD.
"Not. I'm afraid she checked out early. Sorry"
"Grrr... Thank you" Renzar replied.
“Tail high! Sir” the chakat said, but Droquen had already headed back to the restaurant.
