I spent my high school years mostly with my friends Minette and Toka...although the latter was going to another school. In-between I participated in tournaments, with Toka as my rival. In junior year I became Minette's wingman and helped her getting together with Toka. During that time she helped me a lot as well. When the situation with my father turned worse, she convinced her mothers to let me stay with them...and so I did.
One day, at the beginning of my senior year, I was getting late for school. I had my lunch and was running, until I accidentally ram into someone. I could've continued walking, but...when I saw who I accidentally ran into, I...felt bad and thus I helped her up.
That's...the moment where I met Willa.
She was a klutz and forgot to take lunch with her. I...felt pity for that girl...so I decided to invite her sharing my food with me. I have to admit...she may lack the physical strength, but she made it up for her creativity and enthusiasm to finish what she declared to go through. Including her dream of starting the Photography Club.
Over time I enjoyed her presence and, at a point, introduced her to my friends. Turns out that Willa and Minette got along well after a while. And...both me and Minette were part of the Photography Club, with Willa as the club's president.
She...was a year older than us however, but had to repeat her senior year, because of her fragile state.
You see...she tended to get critically ill, sometimes in a span of weeks or months. That's what I had to realize one winter, when she was absent from school for so long. I got to know her parents and while the relationship with her father was...straining at the beginning, I...ended up having some respect for that old man.
So, I visited her almost every day during her sickness. Minette and I would bring her homework, or home-baked goods she could enjoy, or even plushies.
Before I could expect it...even through these hardships...I fell in love with Willa...and this is where Minette helped me getting together with her.
However...when my graduation day came, I heard the crushing news that Willa has to repeat the year again. I was shocked...it was so unfair that, after all the hard work we put in, that she did not get to graduate with us.
Still...Willa attended, so did Toka, who had finished school a year before and concentrated on his career in the senior class of figure skating. Willa assured me that it's okay for her to wait another year, and that I am always welcome to visit her and her parents. Bless her soul.
The next year she got sick again, but thankfully she had enough days being physically present that she could graduate. The party after this was a blast!
Years passed, my career in figure skating got better, and Willa and I had a steady relationship, so did Minette and Toka. Times would come where we attended each other's wedding. I was Minette's best man and she was my witness during my and Willa's wedding.
More years passed. Willa still had a fragile health, but she...was okay for the most time. She became a freelance photographer. Minette strived for a diploma to become an entomologist...that sadly had not worked out though. Toka and I remained on the top as figure skaters.
But as you...may guess...the tides turned eventually...
