Totally recommend a visit at the Pietrarsa Railway Museum ^.=.^
The E.444.001 was one of the prototypes for the new Ferrovie dello Stato locomotive class, to be used on the new high speed lines.
At the time (1967), high speed trains were those running at 200+ km/h: these locomotives were built specifically for those fast services.
Regular locomotives of the class (prototypes excluded) run until the 90s, when the cabs and the electric part were completely refurbished: the modified locomotives were assigned to the E.444R class, with the same unit numbers.
Regular services for all the remaining units ceased in 2020.
