HAPPY NEW YEAR 2024!

I was waiting for the first day of the new year before posting this! This character has been with me for a long time and I'm excited to introduce him to you all! His name is Flare. Flare the Hedgehog! I've had him in the works since Sonic Forces came out. The day I was able to create my own Sonic character was the day he was born, and from there, I've had him going through all kinds of changes and adventures with other OCs in various RPs.

Flare's is technically, in a lot of ways, like Sonic. He's basically the Sonic of his own universe. It'll all be explained in the bio. Making his character has been fun, and now I want to share, not just his picture, but his complete bio to all of you! I hope you like him! The bio's layout was inspired by the Sonicpedia page.

Concept and Creation

His creation began when Sonic Forces came out. The idea of creating your own Sonic character was what led to his making. From there, his appearance and character were altered and adjusted till he became something of an iconic original character of mine that I’ve often used in multiple stories with friends until he became liked amongst them. When I created him, I never imagined he’d be developed quite like this. He carries many of Sonic’s traits but has his own unique powers and while Sonic doesn’t seem to have much of this, he does have some struggles that he often faces in his adventures. This was something I wanted to add since I’ve noticed that Sonic doesn’t have much of that, and I wanted Flare to feel relatable in a certain way.

His inspiration didn’t just stem from Sonic, but other characters like Son Goku from Dragon Ball Z and Kai from Lego Ninjago. While Goku may be a goofball at times for how strong he is, the sense of hope that he gives off is what I wanted to add to Flare. Kai is the Elemental Master of Fire from Ninjago, and that alone gave me an idea as to how I can make Flare’s name suitable and give him the same type of powers and abilities mixed with the aspects of Dragon Ball Z’s Ki energy.

Yet, despite all of this, he is not a perfect character, and that’s what I wanted. I wanted him to be a hero that has many struggles, not just by what he faces, but also internal and emotional ones as well. Even though he possesses great power, fire is still a dangerous element and can lead to hurting places and people, something he often thinks and worries about, yet still tries his best to do what’s right when he needs to, even if it means having to take risks with his powers.


Appearance

Flare carries a close resemblance to Sonic the Hedgehog, and that’s mainly because he’s his world’s Sonic, but there are many differences. He is a slim anthropomorphic hedgehog with red fur that covers most of his body, bright yellow eyes, and tanned peach skin that covers his arms, muzzle, inner ears, and front torso. He has small, triangular ears on top of his head, five long quills on the back of his head that’re waving upward to give off a type of fiery design, two spines protruding from his back behind his shoulders, and a short tail. He wears a black sleeveless jacket with pale yellow trim lines, white gloves, pale yellow wrist rings with black arm guards, and black boots with white straps, greyish soles, and big pale-yellow socks that stick out near his knees.


Personality

Flare does share some similar traits with Sonic the Hedgehog, but he has some differences. Like a flame that never goes out, he’s filled with energy and wants to do nothing more than help others to the best of his abilities, no matter how difficult or confusing the task may be. He’s always willing to give his one hundred percent into everything he does, even the things he doesn’t like. He never likes to be caged or confined and would rather take to the skies and feel as free as the wind.

He loves to see new places, learn new things, and make new friends and will do all he can to make them laugh and smile. Seeing others sad never sets well with him and would do his best to cheer them up, even in his own unique way. However, when he sees trouble or bad things or people, while he could come across as cheeky sometimes arrogant to others, he always means what he says and does. He never likes to let bad things happen or slide and often finds himself involved in the conflicts of others to try to find a way to resolve things if he could. Yet, he knows when certain situations call for it, he will get serious and unleash all his power and skills to protect the innocent and the ones he cares about.


Powers and Abilities

When he was born, Flare was gifted with the incredible power of an Elemental. An Elemental was a type of being in his world that’s capable of manipulating elements, one element for each Elemental. In Flare’s case, he was born with the power to control fire. Using this power, he has learned to use it in multiple ways. He can increase his speed with it and even allow himself to fly. By surrounding his body in flames, he can cause all sorts of damage to his opponent and even shoot these flames like projectiles. His powers also allow his metabolism to increase to the point where he could eat and eat with hardly any signs of slowing down.

However, his Elemental powers aren’t his only source of power. Over the years he has been taught other ways of combat. Through hard training, he has developed heightened reflexes, stamina, endurance, acrobatics, agility, and strength. His most prime style of fighting is through the boxing style, liking to get up close and personal with his opponents. His heightened speed also allows him to transform his body into a type of ball form and spin to deliver what’s called a Spin Dash to his enemies. His years of training have also hardened his body to the point where he can take a high amount of damage and keep going. He’s also able to sense out danger thanks to his years of training and experience in combat throughout multiple adventures.


Weaknesses

While he’s not afraid of the water, he doesn’t care to swim in it. Since his powers are mainly fire based, being around water can seriously hinder his full combat capabilities. He also has a nasty habit of showing off at times and even bantering with his enemies, which makes him come across as reckless and underestimated. The longer it goes on, the more he’s likely to drop his guard.

However, his anger can also play a major factor when it gets out of hand. When his anger is at its peak, he’ll lose all control and lash out at his enemies with no thought and without stopping till there’s nothing left to attack or destroy. Yet, one of his greatest weaknesses is when he started to doubt and feel conflicted about using his powers, especially when innocent people become scared when he uses them.


Background

Flare was born on a small island called Serenity, which was just off the mainland, as the second child to Kenneth and Bianca, two Hedgehog Mobians that reside in a small town called Pleasant Valley. He has an older brother named Blaine, and some time after he was born, he had a little sister named Soleil. However, unlike his brother and sister, Flare was born with a unique power. The power of an Elemental. Sometimes, certain individuals will be either born or given this sort of power through various means, but Flare was born a pure-blooded Elemental with the ability to control and harness the power of fire.

As he grew up, he found this gift of his to his liking, but his parents often feared for their middle child, knowing that fire was a dangerous thing. Even some of the townsfolk, who’re aware of what Flare could do, were a bit afraid of what might happen if his powers were to go unchecked. Eventually, everyone’s fears were proven true when Flare nearly burned his sister and the house down and was scolded by his parents. Thankfully, their angers vanished quickly when they realized that Flare was still just a child and didn’t know enough of what his powers were capable of, and so they taught Flare to try and not use his powers to avoid hurting anything or anyone else, which he reluctantly agreed. When he could, he would still use his powers, but kept it a secret from his parents. His sister was never mad at him, but Blaine tried to help him not use his powers.

Soon, Flare met Ash the Wolf when he was being peaked on by the local school bullies for being a geeky, glasses wearing shrimp for someone of his species. He made quick work of them with his speed and secretly using his powers. From there, Ash’s interest in Flare peaked and the two became lifelong friends. Through Ash, Flare met his parents, which were close friends of his parents, his wild younger sister Pyre and their adopted youngest Pyronica “Pyro” Fox. He learned that Ash was a young but skilled inventor and Pyro was like a Wizkid, and with Pyre’s often impulsive nature, they often found themselves getting into all sorts of trouble through little adventures around the island. Through these adventures, Flare discovered more ways to use his unique powers and even found a place to properly practice with them with the help of friends.

One day, now a teen, Flare met his first challenge by the name of Charlie Bear, who had come to the island on his travels across the world. Charlie had heard of Flare’s powers and wanted to see them for himself, and Flare saw this as an opportunity to test all his training when he discovered that Charlie was more than he appeared to be. Though surprised by Charlie’s incredible strength, the two had a tough battle with the result ending in Flare’s victory. Amazed, Charlie chose to hang around the island and even begun to teach Flare the ways of fighting through boxing.

Eventually, those peaceful days were broken when a human by the name of Dr. Magnus Robotnik (The Dr. Eggman of Flare’s world) declared to take over the world, starting with the central city on the mainland using a large force or robots at his command. This spread to Serenity Island, and when Flare realized his family was in Central City, with his brother being a new police detective and his parents and sister out visiting the place at the time, he knew had to go and help. He took off for Central City and confronted Magnus just as he had most of the city under his control. Flare did his best to fight off his robots but was eventually losing until his friends showed up using an old war jet, he and Ash had found during their many little adventures on the island. He had managed to get it working and was able to come and help, with Charlie and Pyre joining in. This turned the tide until Magnus unleashed a deadly attack with his warship to annihilate the central area of Central City.

Luckily, nobody was caught in the crossfire, but the damage was severe, and Magnus decided to end Flare himself using his personal machine: The Magnutron. It was a fierce battle with Flare finally choosing to let go of his worries and unleash the full might of his Elemental powers, much to the evil doctor’s shock. In the end, Flare was able to defeat Magnus, but when he had a chance to finish him, he chose not to and declared he wasn’t the stopping type and not the killing type. Allowing Magnus to get away, Flare would face him again multiple times in the future, and after that day, all sorts of things happened. Many saw Flare as a hero, but others feared what he could do, and so many times Flare faced ridicule and hardships, but his family finally understood that he needed to be what others saw him be when he saved them and Central City: a hero.

With his friends by his side, Flare has gone on multiple adventures involving mystical gemstones called the Chaos Emeralds and has faced Dr. Magnus and his robots many times, along with other enemies that were looking to cause trouble and take over the planet. Some even came from other places outside their world, but no matter who or what he faced, Flare was ready to take it on to protect the people and the world that he loved, even if some didn’t appreciate him. He met many friends and allies along the way, including other Elementals. One of them was another hedgehog that looked just like him but carried the power to control ice and has since become his fiercest rival. At times he’d work alongside the people of his planet, even if they didn’t like him as much as others did. He even has dived through many different realities just to save the day, whether it was for his world or the one he ended up in. And yet, adventures still awaited him. What will he face next? Only time will tell!


Miscellaneous

· Flare’s home, Pleasant Valley, was a name used by Amy Rose to name the village in Sonic Boom, was not used and so I chose to use it for his hometown.

· Flare’s fighting style has a similarity to Son Goku from Dragon Ball Z and would even unleash a mighty shout to power up further.

· His appearance may have changed multiple times over the years since he was made, but his primary colors and clothing have stayed basically the same.

· His arms were originally red.

· His power was first inspired by the Burst Wispon used in Sonic Forces.

· Flare’s adventures stem from many roleplays I’ve used him in over the years.

· Flare’s likeness towards nature stems from his animal-like species and hates to see anything happen to it, even though his own powers could harm it.

· Flare’s internal conflict and fear of his power stems from multiple anime characters that go through the same struggles when’re given incredible power but fear what could happen if all of it is unleashed at once.

· Flare’s singing and guitar playing stems from a roleplay he a part of that was like the Sonic Underground series.

· His singing was inspired by Nathan Sharp (NateWantsToBattle).

· Flare’s multiversal travels stem from a roleplay involving this and by Sonic Prime’s concept of Sonic going through multiple realities.
