"A queen is nothing without her subjects" 💜_______________________________________________________________________The universe is filled with endless possibilities. Its wonders and mysteries help to inspire creativity and desire in the most unexpected of circumstances, with astronomy as a whole having a spiritual connection with some. Looking up at the night sky can fill one's mind with awe, wondering where we may end up as a species in the future, how far we'll go, and how far we're willing to do so.
Although for some, the universe can be in every sense as beautiful as it can feel hopeless, as a certain avali left to drift through the emptiness of space had felt for the longest time.
6197- a purple and black female avali- always felt like she was wasting borrowed time. From birth, she wasn't the most well behaved avali in their flock, always experimenting with means that would otherwise be risky and dangerous to those around her, as well as being completely incompatible with the Nexus due to a growth anomaly. By her early adulthood, her parents- having had high expectations of their young- sought to send their miscreant off to scouting missions, in hopes that she may re-earn her keep. However, the scouting business wasn't all that it seemed, and instead operated on only logging mediocre or barren planets, while resigning resource- rich planets to be mined for resources that the company kept for themselves. The higher- ups kept the money from selling these resources mostly to themselves, barely bothering to furnish or upgrade any of their available equipment. By all means, they were a scrapping business.
6197, despite her troublesome history, was said to be seen as having great potential for the shady business, being hired on the spot, given a shoddy crash and flight course lesson, before being sent off on her first few missions. It was actually due to this exploratory nature and constant curiosity that many more planets were discovered at a time, wherein other pilots would deem these side- tours a waste of fuel. Despite this, however, 6197 was never treated all too well. She was fed under- prepped rations, bullied and poked around the workplace, and wasn't even given a proper name- being referred to by her designated ship number instead- to the point where she had forgotten her original name as a whole. She eagerly wanted to escape this cruel work, but she was bound by contract for at least two more years of work, before the company would release their pilots and quickly rebrand themselves to avoid legal issues. 6197 decided the only other means of escape she had was to take her scouting ship off- course intentionally and find civilization elsewhere. She'd heard of Earth being talked about a lot, but had no clue where it was due to lacking connection with the Nexus. The scouting ships were also built to only land safely on designated pads at the company building. Her only option was to take her ship out during working hours and fly it as far away as its tank would take her.
And that brings us to now, 6197 leaving her kind behind, her ship propelling through the vast emptiness of space, no clue what to do or where to go. She kept trying to stifle tears as she clutched the wheel, shivering at the realization that this was her life now, and wondering how and why it all went wrong. The further she had flown, the more the stars and planets receded, celestial masses becoming more and more scarce as the passage of time marched on. She kept thinking about landing on a watery planet- she'd seen many of those already- but wasn't sure if she'd even survive the impact, nor if any of the wildlife wouldn't immediately view her as prey. She thought about turning around and returning to Avalon, but she would most likely be immensely penalized, the work they'd demand surely working her to death. She wasn't even sure she had enough fuel to do so to begin with. She sunk into her seat, head pressed into the steering wheel, only hoping for a miracle to happen at this point, lest she slowly fade from history, becoming no one else's problem. Among her rush of thoughts and cries, she had the worrying sensation of being watched.
On the brink of giving up, 6197 laid in her seat, eating some of her rations, still terrible in quality, but she'd become accustomed to the taste and texture. Her fuel tank was on the cusp of giving out, leaving the shift's natural drift to carry her as far as it could. It wasn't long into her eating that her ship began sending out a notification of an incoming unknown entity. Having nothing else occur for the longest time, her attention immediately snapped to the notification, and sure enough, whatever this entity was, it was nearing her ship. She watched it in terror, the rations immediately sinking in her stomach, mind in a flurry of what it could be. A space leviathan? No, the dot was too small. The company come to retrieve her? No, they couldn't possibly find her out here- unless... She clung to the side of the console as the dot on the radar neared closer and closer, clutching the side of the console with dread, but... the dot grazed the side of her ship, a brilliant purple light casting through the window from the side the entity was on, until it moved around to the front of the windshield.
6197 couldn't believe what she was looking at. Out in open space, hovering in front of her ship, was an otherworldly bipedal being, almost appearing as a god. They seemed to be some sort of cat? bat? dragon? 6917 wasn't too sure. They were adorned with glorious glistening wings of gold and amethyst, the stars and active cosmos cascading across their wings and body, a sight she hadn't observed in what felt like forever- it was almost mesmerizing just to look at. The being had a long, purple tail that ended in a golden crest, the top of their head sporting a similar upside- down crest in place of ears, their face sporting what looked like a visor, but it seemed almost a part of their body. Red eyes beamed right back at her from behind the visor, though she could almost swear she felt... relieved, just by the being's gaze itself. Just when she thought things couldn't get any stranger, the being, still in the vacuum of space, spoke to her, their voice beaming yet inherently reassuring.
"Greetings, young one. I hadn't expected a chosen to be this far out, but I seem to have found you at the perfect time."
The being floated closer to her ship before touching one of their feet down on the hood, 6197 feeling the propulsion of her ship slow until it came to a complete stop. 6197 tensed up, then sighed. She wanted to panic, she wanted to back up and try to snap out of the relaxed and reassured feeling, but at this point, she had nothing left. She didn't care what this thing did to her. As she was accepting an expectedly untimely fate however, she witnessed the being hesitate, almost as if it could sense everything she had to go through.
"Oh... do not worry. I understand you have had to experience many unfortunate events in your life, and I am aware you have no reason to trust me, but... I truly do not mean any harm to you."
The being would sit down on the hood of 6197's ship, looking back at her through the glass, as if waiting for her to calm down. 6197 was conflicted, unsure of what to do or say, before finally managing to squeak out a curious yet tiresome-
"...What are you?"
The otherworldly being smiled softly, slightly turning more towards the window, their movements slow and cautious, as if to not startle an animal. "...Normally, that wouldn't be a question I can outright answer, but this is a unique case. I am Pandora, a disciple to the goddess of the moons across the cosmos, Lunala. I am among a very small group who work to restore and maintain balance to the cosmos, as well as incorporate mortals who are deemed worthy to join by Lunala themselves." The being, now known to 6197 as Pandora, then beamed at her with a slight, uplifting smile. "...And it would seem you, my dear, have been deemed worthy by her.
6197's expression was filled with an overwhelming sense of confusion, happiness, and awe, her mind once again racing. Her? Worthy? From Lunala herself- the being spoken of only in legends?! Was this the miracle she was hoping for? No, surely not- this must be an intergalactic prank... this far out... and from someone with a skintight suit powerful enough to stop an entire ship without tipping it just through a single touch... 6197 just stared at Pandora as she processed all of this.
Pandora would lightly chuckle. "I understand it's a lot to take in, hun. It's the same with everyone. But "worthiness" isn't a random choice by my overseer. It's much moreso treated like destiny. I only wish for your compliance to be as gentle as my approach with you has been."
6197, after contemplating for a bit longer, took a deep breath and sighed out, standing upright. She had assessed her options. She couldn't go back. She was at the end of her rope. The universe had quite literally given her a second chance. This was the miracle she truly had been looking for, and she could just tell Pandora could read her thoughts, her expression almost signifying that with her, things truly would be okay.
Through a sharp inhale and clenched claws, 6197 spoke. "...I... I-I am willing to take this opportunity."
There was a pause, 6197 almost expecting Pandora to point and laugh at her before pulling out a voice recorder or something, but no. Pandora simply nodded, and 6197 witnessed as Pandora began manifesting something in her paws, at first appearing as an orb of bright purple light, before it slowly manifests and takes shape into a visage, similar to Pandora's very own. The visage then proceeded to vanish into a warped dark and purple wormhole, before it re- materializes within her ship, a few feet in front of her, surprising 6197 slightly.
"...I apologize for failing to mention, but disciple admittance is permanent. You may swap back and forth between forms as you please, unless this role develops into their own alter- ego." Pandora would sit up on her legs in front of the windshield, 6197 trying to listen in and stifle any concerns she might have. "...Admittedly, I am an alter- ego to my host, but I can only tell you to trust me when I say they have grown very accustomed to my presence. Even now, I sense you know what your heart desires."
6197 would nod, slowly and cautiously taking the visage into her claws. This was no joke. This was all real. The feeling of the visage in her trembling claws felt empowering, comforting, and almost like... herself. She soon found herself no longer trembling while holding the visage, looking back at Pandora through the screen of the visor.
Adorn yourself with the crown of Lunala, and be reborn.
6197 fully gave in, putting on the visage and instantly feel it become a part of herself, the visage melding into her feathers and flesh painlessly, reshaping itself to match her form. She felt the visage spread its influence out across her body, every inch that was claimed felt invigorating and energizing, all of her previous worries, all of her wrongdoings, all of her struggles washing away as she took on this brilliant new form. Her wingarms puffed out and became adorned with stars that seemed to shimmer and cascade across them, her heart beating with passion as her senses were massively enhanced, a once prolonged dread for the cosmos quickly being flipped around to unending passion and admiration. She felt her body become completely claimed and transformed, the voice of Lunala echoing in her ears, beaming that she now had a proper name- Phoenix- from a journey that wasn't ended with a quiet burnout, but a fiery, passionate rebirth. Phoenix awakened in her new body with new eyes, given a new family, and a new purpose. She found herself stepping out of the ship through the airlock, Pandora waiting for her with a smile and a held out paw, which Phoenix gladly took. She found herself being whisked away from the hopelessness of the scouting ship she had once called home, away from all the errors of her past, and towards a bright, unknown future. She could hardly believe what was happening, laughing and crying through her visor, still coming to terms that it was all finally over. Pandora took Phoenix into her embrace, clutching her tightly and allowing her to let it all out into her arm, being as reassuring as she had initially presented herself, as Pandora flew through the vastness of space, on their way to Phoenix’s new beginning.
From then on, Phoenix would learn all about the nature of disciples and how they operate, and already this sort of work was far more appealing than what she was forced to endure for all those years. She had also learned of branch disciples- special disciples who have imprinted on those who induct them, serving both them and their overseer. Phoenix was rather quick to take a very close fondness of Pandora, viewing her as her savior, which Pandora was completely fine with. She had also learned about Pandora's ALTER- alter- ego, Cepheus- who was a sun disciple- as well as Abber, the mortal host for both of them. Pandora also showed Phoenix Earth, where Phoenix now lives as their mortal self. Through all the time and expression Phoenix had spent with Pandora and her alternate forms, the bond between them only grew stronger and stronger, to the point where Phoenix had become so bound to Pandora, that she could also transform into a sun disciple whenever Cepheus overtook Abber, being the second ever disciple to have a mortal form containing two disciple forms at once. Phoenix treated both Pandora and Cepheus like a queen and king, respectively- a royal figure she looked up to immensely, even surpassing Solgaleo and Lunala. Similarly over time, Pandora viewed Phoenix as less of a work partner, and much more of a relationship partner, and Cepheus agreed with Pandora, feeling much the same way. This would fully culminate when Phoenix had proposed to Pandora, in front of all the other moon disciples.
Needless to say, it was a yes. 💜_______________________________________________________________________
