It reminds of me of one scene from book "Legion" from some reason, 100 Polish resistance members luring 200 German soldiers into the forest, circling them, and killing in the deepest of the night without a single casualty. Freaking badass.
On the other note, XCOM: Enemy Within is fun. I just found out about S.H.I.V's firepower. Hehe. They literally do more damage than Colonel Heavy with equivalent weapon tier, and without entire lengthy process of advancing through all those ranks, only thing human operatives have above them are additional abilities, I still have to try mec-troopers though.
I think I will try SHIV only run at some point >:D
On the other note, XCOM: Enemy Within is fun. I just found out about S.H.I.V's firepower. Hehe. They literally do more damage than Colonel Heavy with equivalent weapon tier, and without entire lengthy process of advancing through all those ranks, only thing human operatives have above them are additional abilities, I still have to try mec-troopers though.

They have plenty high HP, a lot of movement, more even than mechs, and bring to bear impressive firepower. Also one model can be used as cover by other operatives, so you can move normal troops much since there is no need to search for cover for them. There is series of upgrades for those bad boys that result in them gaining even more movement, suppresion, better and better weapon, regeneration, automatic reaction shots not requiring enacting watch to enemies within small tile radius, there is also flying variant that thanks to height advantage have enormous accuracy and critical chance, with this that those weapons are basically equivalent of heavy, and are immune to critical hits, they are very usefull as an expendable asset, since you need to only manufacture them, without need of surviving multiple missions in order to gather ranks.
They can't do certain things though, like climbing ladders/pipes, and using non-lethal weapon necessary to get captive aliens, that are needed in order to research some technologies, other utilities like medkit are unavailable as well. In the end, human operative with the best kit and high rank is better than them in every metric safe for mobility, but S.H.I.V's can be manufactured with all abilities available from the start, assuming you did both necessary research and foundry (proving ground equivalent) projects, and are cheaper than end-tier gear for soldiers. So as long as you have a lot of resources available, or enough engineers to reduce their production cost to massive degree, you can just spam those things, but calling them cannon fodder is unjust; they are as good as everyone safe for the best of operatives.
