When going through the halls of the Urbana Corp one might tell you of Desdemona. A small plush doll that the brilliant Dr. von Klammer used to own. The tale goes like this:
Long ago in time of instability, a little girl was gifted a little plush toy that her mother had made for her by hand. This toy was named Desdemona after the character in Shakespeare’s Othello, as it was the girl’s favorite story to read. She promised her mother she would keep the toy close with her at all times. Good or bad. As a friend who will stick with you in bad times was a blessing one should not forsake.
Over time the toy wore out in places. A neighbor’s dog got a little rough with one of its ears. The girl would sew new patches on and refill the stuffing as it was her duty to keep her friend together. Even as she grew older and things got worse she would be sure that Desdemona was taken care of.
Finally when the good times came as the girl was now a much older woman, she did not leave her friend behind. A ship of Theseus, very few parts of the original toy remained. The toy’s owner didn’t mind and she felt that she too had changed completely since they first met. A fitting partnership of aging for them both.
Finally when it was time for that final rest, the older woman, surrounded by her daughters and those who respected her, gave the little toy one last hard squeeze before she went off to enjoy her final retirement. Hoping others would keep little Desdemona safe so that future generations could learn from the ideals it represented.
....
Is HR gone? Alright. Real talk? Her daughters might have messed up big time. They thought that uploading their mother’s mind and putting it into a machine would be a good idea but Urbana Corp. kept denying their request for a robotic body. The two got impatient and put a little endo skeleton inside of their mother’s favorite toy along with a small super computer in the head that could hold their mother’s uploaded mind.
Now Nadine is back and not very happy about not only being alive again but also stuck in a toy.
So meet Desdemona. The small hand-me-down plush hiding a big secret.
