I’ve made a character sheet of some of the bird characters of my upcoming story and for my portfolio. Most of the birds depicted here are nocturnal birds as the protagonist is one of them and I wanted to draw birds which he’d interact the most, at least in the first part of the story. I’m planning to make a reference sheet for some of the more important mammal characters as well, and also maybe a same species character sheet for Neville’s and Enoch’s family.
I changed Enoch’s eyes a bit, still trying to figure out of he looks better with colored sclera or with white sclera.
Characters from left to right ( I didn’t write their names because some of them might change over time):
- Enoch Willowperch: he’s an eurasian eagle owl and Neville’s co-worker/“rival”. Coming from a rich and influential family, he’s suave and full of confidence and has a strong sense of justice.
- Becky Brooks: she’s a barn owl and also Neville’s co-worker. She works as a stenographer at WPD. According to Enoch she’s got some pretty nimble quills.
- Neville Nightglider: he’s an european nightjar and the anti-hero of this story. He’s an underdog detective at WPD with high ambitions.
- She has no name, she’s just a random goldcrest, because I wanted to draw a really small bird for scale.
- Ray Riverstorm: he’s an ex-detective Raven, who quit his job at some point (it has nothing to do with his missing leg), as he was stubborn and hard to work with. He’s basically this “difficult genius” type. Yet, he’s kinda a mentor and father-figure to Neville.
- A long-tailed tit/bushtit. She also has no name yet, but I kinda like her design, so I might give her some actual role in the story.
- Liam Luna: he’s a thug little owl. He’s the member of FFH, a secret organistation with growing popularity, which members want to legalize hunting/meat-eating in their society. He is the right-hand bird/ henchbird of their leader, Leon Frostclaw.

Thank you! :D
Even though it’s rather tricky to come up with outfit-ideas for birds, because basically they can only wear shirts with sleeveless design, maybe some accessories here and there, and that’s about it, you just can’t get too wild with them, because of their wings.
Or, to think about it, maybe the characters with longer legs can also wear some sort of legwear, at least I might play around with that in the future.
