Amaterasu and Chibiterasu in the style of the "Biscuit" book series! Idea by ama-tcra-su on Tumblr! ( https://www.tumblr.com/ama-tcra-su )
This was an almost-commission through a friend who knew the idea-haver and came to me to inquire about it. I was in no mood for a real commission, but I liked the idea so much, and had to practice kid's book styles anyway for Reasons, that I just did it for free/exposure/practice.
I came up with a WAY better custom brush for matching the texture of the reference images way too late into the process but considering this was free and also not exactly a personal project, I just kinda finished it as-is with the better brush used here or there. If I tried this style again, or my own works in a similar style but less confined (my art always looks awkward when I imitate a style that isn't mine), I'll use that brush from the start and it should go much better.
If my dog Flan passes her test today to become a "library dog," I plan to illustrate and print a very short, silly book about her that the kids can read to her if they want (that will be Flan's job - having books read to her by kids), and this was a great way to dip my toes in. I think a drawing like this, but without having to try to follow someone else's style, would work well. We shall see!
