Silk and Stone - The Fall
The ground shook.
The WORLD shook.
And Thorny swore loudly.
“Hell’s bells!” he stopped to stable himself, before giving her a push up the tunnel.
“Princess! Get the Hell up there! Floor's giving out!”
She stumbled as she tried to climb up, before he grabbed her wrist, pulling her along like a scared child. Atta yelled in alarm as she was almost lifted off her feet by the stocky engineer. He was running up the tunnel, yet sticking to the safe path.
And it was safe, until the floor under Atta’s foot gave out from her.
A small chunk of rock fell into the void below her, and her foot fell into the hole left in its place. She screamed as she tripped, and was pulled out of Thorny’s grip. He ran ahead, until realizing she was gone.
“PRINCESS!” He yelled, running back through the unsafe patches. Clearly what was considered “safe” no longer applied.
Atta tried to pull herself up, but her leg had fallen through up to her thigh. The fall had left her in a painful split, one she was struggling to get out of.
Thorny nearly tripped himself, running over and reaching for her.
“I gotchya, princess, I got-”
But he never got a chance to finish.
The world shook again.
A thunderous cracking filled the whole tunnel.
And the floor beneath Atta gave way a completely, falling in a huge chunk of rock.
Her heart stopped.
Everything stopped.
And she fell.
And fell.
And fell.
And fell.
“PRINCEEEEESS!” Thorny yelled, still trying to reach for her far above her.
Already his voice was growing faint.
Rocks fell with her.
Parts of the dig site fell with her.
Her crown flew off her head, pulling her antennae as it went, and fell with her.
And she fell, ever further, into the abyss…

Working on a crossover fic between Hollow Knight and A Bug's Life. Princess Atta goes to investigate an anomaly uncovered by a newly-dug tunnel. Unfortunately for the princess, the ground was less than stable, and down, down, down goes the princess...
