Indecision
If you only have the loosest idea of what you want I'm happy to try and bring that into focus. Even if you don't yet have artwork of the character you wish to depict that's not a problem for me, I can help you work out all of that either by discussion on a single scene, or for a full reference sheet. It costs nothing to ask.
Payment
Paypal Invoice is the only way I do payment. It's secure for me and you and provides a solid reference for the payment itself.
- Up to £200 GBP commissions are payment in full in advance
- Commissions of £200+ GBP are eligible for a payment plan. This can vary depending on the project, usually it's split into two or three payments if it's a single piece (sketch, final approval, completion), or more for larger projects like full comics (per page, or per art process stage for the whole piece). I always do my best to accomodate budgets.
Process[b]
- Idea is discussed and a price quote given to reflect the expected labour involved to complete the piece. Payment plans are also discussed if required, and payment is made.
- Initial sketch is established, this is usually quite rough and to give an idea of the image. Once approved, we move on to the next stage.
- Sketch is refined and made ready for ink. Sometimes basic inking is done at this stage, sometimes it remains a sketch, depending on the piece. Second approval is undertaken to make sure finer details are as you want them. Once you and I are happy that all details are present and correct it is moved on to the next stage. Some very small details are not always included at this stage.
- Depending on the piece, this stage will either be completion or third approval. Colours and ink are tidied, finer details included, and a third approval stage undertaken if required. Once we're both happy with the piece it is then moved on to the final stage.
- Completion and file processing is undertaken. This is when all the very fine details are finalised, inking tidied and shading tweaked to suit. Files are then uploaded to Dropbox for you to download.
[b]Completion Time
This varies from piece to piece. A single simple scene may be completed in as little as a week while much larger and complex things like multi page comics can take several months. Communication and existing workload will also play a part in completion time scales. If there is a deadline to meet do let me know and if I can meet it I will. I will also send you regular updates of your commission's status, usually once per week.
Working Practices
I will often work on multiple pieces simultaneously. This can mean you will see smaller commissions get completed before larger projects have reached their conclusion. It's important I make use of all of my working hours efficiently, so while I'm waiting for a response on one project I will pick up another that I have the information I need to work on to keep everything moving. You can always contact me for an update on your commission at any point in the process, so never be afraid to get in touch if you feel you need to.
Time Zones and Working Hours
I do this as my full time job and I'm in the UK. Therefore, I am available for usually 8-10 hours a day, Monday-Friday. It does mean I'm not as responsive on weekends or late evenings. My business also has other demands on my time and while I do try and make sure I check all my messages daily, sometimes there literally aren't enough hours in the day for me to do everything. All I ask is patience, I'm only one person and as much as I'd love to employ someone to help run my little business it just isn't an option yet.
Thank you for taking the time to read all of the above. I look forward to working with you soon.
