So! SS13 is a wonderful* game chock full of references to various bits of media because it's not any kind of corporate made. Engineering voidsuits in particular are VERY reminiscent of the Rigs used in Dead Space, and a friend decided to doodle this for me outta nowhere!
Also Ie has whiskers because they're kinda cute and like, I didn't ask for them, but I don't hate them?

* It REALLY depends on which server you go to, if you decide to give the game a look. I haven't tried SS14 at all either, not sure if I will.

At the risk of sounding like a broken record, this is so fun! I've always adored how the proper suits look and it only made me enjoy playing engineering even more. I can only wonder what codebase ya play on where they call em voidsuits! I recall chomp calling em that when I played a while back, but I'm not sure if it stuck :o
Baystation and Baystation-adjacent did it before chomp and virgo.
On Bay you actually have Resource Integrated Gears (RIGs) that operate similar to how the deadspace RIG does, along with voidsuits that look somewhat similar but come with a different purpose.
Voidsuits are static and cannot be easily stowed, but are usually more protective and do not require power to operate, RIGs drain power constantly from their internal battery, and once out, they go entirely dead. You can get stuck in space floating with no life support that way (it doesn't instantly depressure you, unless it runs out of power WHILE pressurising)
