Duel --Sketch WIP--
For Dissidia Aces, of Reis and Tifa battling together. My partner is Chisuukei... and I'm sure when she finishes her comic she is totally gonna whoop my sorry ass. :x
Tifa's pose was really bothering me, so I ended up re-sketching it about three more times after the Livestream. Now I... probably should go back to writing my essay, LOL.
Hopefully now it's working a tad more dramatic than what I had before in my prelim sketch, haha.

About the light source, it all depends on the scenery, which i have not a single idea how it is (if it is not the same as the old one)
but yeah, i love it! i do like how you done the wing on the dragon, not to mention those feets, they're so awesome!
[ offtopic] And why thank you, the ever so amazing darkicewolf! [/ offtopic]

The energy in this is amazing. I love the perspective too, it really lends to the action.
I've got a question. How do you flesh out dynamic poses like that? My stuff always comes out incredibly static and boring, and if I try to be even the least bit creative I get a really awkward-looking result.

Thanks so much! c:
Short answer, experience. Short answer but a lot less vague: I doodle really shitty sketches all the time. I have a sketchbooks with pages and pages full of doodles I drew when my classmates were standing around and I liked their pose. When I start a big commission, I usually take 20 minutes to do some warm-up sketches and see what pose will work best. If I have an idea, I go for it and put it down on paper while I remember. Doodling is the perfect time to experiment and try out dynamic poses, before you even have to spend a lot of time on it.
I'm too lazy to scan in all my sketchbooks, but trust me... if I could show you, about 1/3rd is notes and the other part is filled to the brim with tiny drawings. People don't have to see them, and many don't even realize that you do actually practice outside of commissions.
I hope that helps! Really, all it takes is drawing and redrawing. :'D Even with this drawing, I had to redraw Tifa several times before I was happy with how her pose was looking.

First link didn't work, grrr. XD I wish FA had a "check comments" feature like dA has.

Thanks for the response! I suppose practice really is essential. I used to keep sketchbooks too, but I got frustrated by how crappy my drawings would come out. I'm at this stage where I refuse to draw anything unless I know it's going to come out "good" and presentable, but I guess I've just gotta roll with it until the crappy drawings stop being crappy. xD
You're welcome~ c:
No matter how experienced you are, there will always be drawings you "throw away." I've sometimes worked hours and hours on a personal drawing and went "you know what, this isn't working" and went to something else. So don't let that discourage you! It's all a part of the process. <3 XD
