It all started as a simple idea to expand the museum, as attendance had been low. Blathers was thrilled at the idea, the thought of all the new exhibits that would attract visitors and bring more attention to the museum in general. Little did he know that wasn’t the kind of expansion that the idea had in mind.

As once the expansions were done, all that changed was a new bakery being opened. Which that was still good, it could help bring in extra funds for the museum. Plus as the museum’s curator Blathers was given an unlimited access to snack from the bakery whenever he wanted. The animal managing it even seemed to encourage it, as they would bring over fresh baked goods to the owl quite often. The sweet tempting smell being too hard to resist.

It shouldn’t have been a surprise that Blathers was putting on weight, though everyone seemed to deny it, encouraging him to eat more. It also shouldn’t have been more when more renovations were in order and yet another restaurant opened up in the museum. All the while Blathers was putting on the pounds. Until one time he tried to get up, only finding that he couldn’t. Not that it seemed that anybody cared.

As it seemed instead a plan was already thought of, as they just turned Blathers into a sort of interactive exhibit. “The fattest owl in the world” much to his embarrassment. But it’s not like he could do much about it, as visitors were encouraged to feed him. He continued to grow and grow. Filling up more of the museum. Until eventually he outgrew it.

Of course this didn’t stop his growing as he went from an attraction in the museum, to one on the island. “Who needed a boring old museum anyways, this clearly is more popular anyways.” Was what the island’s owner Tom Nook had to say. Blathers grew larger and larger with every bit he ate, taking up more space, crushing homes and shops beneath his growing weight. Soon enough taking up the entire island.

Though I highly doubt this is where he’ll stop growing, despite his own concerns. As he still seems to be drawing quite a lot of attention, and Nook has already made quite a bit of bells from his investment.
