I really need to stop neglecting the Sa'jiir, the lizardfolk of my setting. They are quite important for the setting
Shedding skin is a real issue for the Sa'jiir, but those who migrated south and conquered the lands formerly ruled by catfolk can at least do so in the comfort of bathhouses built specifically for them by their new fluffy subjects.
(Side note, the lizard on the left is female. They are almost identical to males, aside for wider hips and slightly different cololartion) :P

Over 200 years ago the catfolk Empire of Sirath was at the peak of its influence and expansion, controlling a large portion of the Sirath continent (named after the empire). This all ended when the lizardfolk of the Kahelir coalition invaded from the deserts in the north, and started settling into catfolk controlled areas. How the war between the two faction begun is still unclear: The Sa'jiir claim they were given lands to settle by the catfolk, only to be attacked immediately after with no declaration, while the Ajshar catfolk of Sirath claim the lizardfolk simply invaded their borders and started massacring everyone.
As the Sa'jiir conquered more and more lands, the Empire of Sirath found itself unable to match their ferocity in battle. Thus begun a slow decline lasting centuries, ending with the loss of their capital and most of their territories at the hands of new human invaders.
In the newly conquered territories the Sa'jiir became a ruling elite, purging their new lands of all former nobility, royalty and military. The remaining catfolk were forced in a lower position in the social hyerarchy, being forced to serve their new masters. For the most part the Sa'jiir proved to be quite reasonable rulers, avoiding needless cruelty when not necessary, and even adopting many aspects of catfolk culture, such as their alphabet, clothing styles, military tactics and administration.
The Sa'jiir have a much longer lifespan than the Ajshar catfolk (250+ years vs 60-70) but reproduce at a much slower rate, so the fear of being outnumbered by their subject was constant. As such, any act of rebellion or even slight defiance was met with extreme and efficient violence. Some catfolk claim the Sa'jiir even periodically culled large portions of the population in the lands they controlled, in order to maintain their elite status, but this has not yet been confirmed, and it is viewed by many as simple "anti-reptile cat propaganda".

Haha indeed, they are likely very itchy!
The spots and stripes are individual markings that can be found on both males and females, it's just a coincidence the female is spotted here. The difference is males have a more red coloured throat they inflate and use for courtship, and that's it. I need to draw that next :P

Yeah I haven’t seen many lizard races shed their scales in fantasy worlds.
Also I’d join the the anti lizard underground resistance, seems like they might have interesting things to do since direct violence isn’t an option.
Cats + insurgencies = perfected chaos, which for me seems like a fun time.

can confirm, lizards are the best >w>
It does make sense that they would have tools to help with shedding as well as bathhouses to help loosen some skin more easily. I do wonder tho if maybe a more broad implement that's more akin to some form of sandpaper might be better than a knife since that'd be more akin to how most lizards shed by rubbing up against something like a tree. Tho I guess the knife could be akin to how people shave so if you're experienced it might be faster to do it that way.
Im also imagining a wealthy lizard that just has servants do the process for them while they lay back and get pampered, with those servants of course needing to be trained and skilled to avoid causing any harm during the shedding process of course >w>

Given the trouble that may domesticated reptiles have with shedding and the array of products built around these issues, I've been wondering what cultural practices a sapient race might develop around this. Domesticated creatures quite often display problems that are similar to what people in urban settings encounter. I've imagined it can be used to identify issues that antho creatures would have when forming civilizations. Thinking of how they might deal with these issues is a great foundation for worldbuilding.
Someone's certainly trying to get noticed, haha. Lovely interaction!
I really like these small slice of life moments, showing the differences between your species not only from us, but among each other. How their society is shaped, and the large amount of worldbuilding and detail behind it. Makes every single pic properly feel a part of something larger!

Wait... if the cat folk were superior in every way including military, intellectual pursuits and administration to the point that the reptiles adopted them over time how did they ever take there eland to begin with? Especially if there reproduction is proportionally so slow that it would mean losing even a small number couldn't be replaced for extreme lengths of time.
They were superior in term of intellectual pursuits and administration for sure, but in term of military might the Sa'jiir had the upper hand. They are much taller than catfolk, basically almost twice their size, they have good armors, weapons, and had a really good strategist at their head.
They attacked from the desert in the north, an area that didn't have a lot of defenses, and pretty much destroyed the Sirath army sent to stop them, gaining a foothold that they later started expanding. As the territory they conquered grew, keeping a tight grip on it became harder, but in head-on battles they always suffered very minor losses.
