Something that I've been bothered by for a long time is my reliance on digital... it's fun, it's awesome, but I've wanted to start expanding into some traditional media too. I'm aiming to do a watercolor practice a day in my sketchbook to get the hang of everything (acrylic makes my brain hurt, so... WATERCOLOR!)
Might not post everythingggg, but hopefully as I get better most of it won't be awful. XD
Using lots of colors was proving to be difficult for me to handle, so I'm just sticking to one per painting until I understand it better. After awhile I'll use two or three and see where it goes from there. :'D
Used the Animal Character Generator and got "Fossa Elder"... thought that was pretty fun, so I rolled with it.
Hope you enjoy! The paper is a bit creamier IRL, but I think y'all can deal. ;D

Aww, thank you so much! I actually have no idea how to use digital watercolors... it seems a bit more straightforward IRL. D: (Whenever I try in PS or Painter, it just... idk what happens, but it makes me want to close the program or use another tool)
JUST GO FOR IT SISTAH! A simple wash is pretty easy to control on paper, and I'm sure you'd get the hang of it right away. :D

i am retarded and put digital.. sighs at self~
but yea traditionally is very difficult.
I loved shading with tea but I fell out of the style and well, it was fun at first but then you really have to study teas and how you soak the leaves just perfect for the right hues.
I think I might pick up tea shading again

thank you for the inspiration

LOL, s'all good... digital watercolor is for realz difficult, though. It's like painting with the fattest, roundest brush in the universe and not knowing how the pigments will actually react with the paper. And then it gets ugly. And you see brush marks. *strangles Painter* :x
Oooh, I can't say I've ever shaded with tea (mostly because I drink coffee, haha! IT IS PRECIOUS IN THIS APARTMENT). That sounds great, though... you should get back into it!
No prob at all... I'm glad I could inspire! c:

Oh now you've got me fan squeeing. I should be picking up my gouache and doing this too.
Question barrage tiem!: How long did this take you? Are you using freshly squeezed paint? And do you have set themes/inspirations you've saved up when you create a new design like this?

Heee, you totally should! :D
Whoops, I guess I forgot to put down the time and all that stuff. LOL. I think it was 1-2 hours... I was watching American Dad at the same time, so I wasn't really paying too much attention and was distracted half the time. XD The paints are from a tube (just cheap-ass stuff... I have no idea the difference between brands, and I figure starting out a $7-14 pack from Walmart does okay).
I just used the character generator and went through it until something caught my eye and I could imagine something from the description. :'D I loveee fantasy and steampunk stuff, so I tend to lean more in that direction.
I probably should try something else one of these days, hurr.

Basically the more expensive the watercolor the better, more vibrant washes you get. Cheap paints are fine for opaque painting and monochromatic schemes like this =3 Washes are real fun to get into making colors by layering instead of mixing...except when you gotta wait around for each layer to dry, lol.
Oh and this is one of the best books you can grab to learn: http://www.amazon.ca/Complete-Water.....ref=pd_sim_b_4
I love this so much. xux The gray and red look stunning together and the nose and eyes are absolutely fabulous. He really looks like he should be a character straight out of a book or movie. You really did a fantastic job at giving him a lot of character- you should consider drawing the rest of him some time!
I fell in love with this the moment I saw it. <3
