Why I Love Uncle Stripe’s Obliviousness
***Stripe Heeler and Trixie Heeler are from the Australian TV Show Bluey, which belongs to Studio LUDO***
Stripe is by far one of my favorite characters in Bluey. He is so sweet, yet so burly and wild (especially in The Sign 💀💀). But, I have to admit, after taking the test for him, his EQ… could use some help.
Stripe is really bad at noticing the emotions of others. For example, in Pizza Girls, Stripe had gotten a new car (he’s apparently a big car guy) that has all these new features, like simply lifting your foot behind the vehicle to open the back. But the thing is, he talked for hours and hours about it. And while that’s not necessarily bad, it was so obvious that Bandit was painfully bored as Stripe kept on talking about it, making the most sour face and making all these looks at Stripe. It was not until Bandit huffed out in exasperation and directly told him that he was so done with listening to him that Stripe finally stopped. It’s incredible that he couldn’t read Bandit’s face, even though his eyes were so huge and his posture so deflated.
But for some reason, I find that obliviousness on the part of Stripe so absolutely endearing. I honestly find it really cute! Even when he was a child, as shown in Fairytale, he was quite gullible.
Then, there are all the snide looks that Chilli gives him, like in Library where Stripe fails to see where Muffin is going with the questions she’s asking him, essentially manipulating him as he just said the answer that he seemed to think that parents should say, rather than what would actually make sense given the situation. He just let her do whatever she wanted, and once again, he didn’t notice that it was bad until someone had to tell him directly. He really just can’t read the air.
And lastly, he’s just a big ol’ dumb himbo. This is most on display in The Sign, where he’s getting all wild and drunk, and he even ran up and caught the flowers during the bouquet toss like a footy player would, really showing off his masculinity (while making everyone else [especially his wife Trixie] facepalm). He also was laughing super loud and dancing like crazy, yelling stuff out at the wedding like, “LET’S get ON IT!!!”
Like, oh my f—king god, I LOVE THIS MAN.

The show doesn’t make a big deal out of it, but when you look closely, he’s really not good at it. There’s also a big example in Faceytalk too, where he poorly reads the situation and dishes out punishment in a way that doesn’t make sense—like he’s following a narrative, what he thinks he should do rather than what the situation actually requires. And there’s even more episodes with these kinds of examples of being bad at reading situational or social cues.
But yet, it’s part of why I find him so endearing. Honestly, I think he’s autistic (I am too, and before I started getting into psychology and how people act, I was just like him 💀), which just makes me love him even more. I want to hug him so bad 🥺
