Every coin has two sides, one shown, bright and full of life under the spotlight, while the other crawls, hidden behind the curtains, and ensuring safety and wellbeing for the other.
While, in Grimmoirea, the mortals roam free on the land, living their lives and growing, there's who guides the flow of time from afar: the five Gods of Grimmoirea, personification of the five main elements of the world.
In the form of a mighty Dragon, in contrast with the cruel and destructive nature that these creatures had when they roamed the land, Yulelin represents Life. A gentle being with the power of creation, capable of starting existences, watching his creations grow and prosper, with the chance of living the God of Life gave them.
Where there's a start, there must be an end, and in that Enferus, the God of Death, is the one in charge. In human form, the Lord of the Underworld is able to cease the existence of Yulelin's creations, guiding the souls of the dead in their travel trough the afterlife, may it be an opportunity of redemption, or a sentence of damnation.
Evolution of any kind starts from conflict, being with yourself or anything or anyone else; the marching forward of the world is constellated of War, and Guerrilla, its Goddess, rules over it. Adversities on the path of mortals, fights they have to fight to become better versions of themselves, all start from the deity with crimson hair, ready to join her subjects in the battles life poses for them.
What War starts, Love and Peace are able to finish: Heiwai is who stops conflicts, who helps mortals to rebuild and find themselves after evolution left ashes behind; the God of Love who brings peace in the hearts of the people, healing their wounds and restoring what's broken by conflict after its purpose has been served.
Four Gods who balance each other, who represent the natural order of things in its flowing, in its Order. But where there's Order, Chaos lurks from the shadows... in this case making Chaos and Magic pretty alike.
In the form of an hellish cat, Nyamuthep, the God of Magic himself, rules over such a primordial energy: representation and source of all types of Magic, creator of the race of Demons, he controls what spells, hexes, enchantments and curses can or cannot do, imposing or breaking the limits of incantations all over the land.
A being of great power, equaled by all the other four deities alltogether.
All powerful as they can be, the Gods of Order cannot directly interact with the mortal plane by going there personally: they can control their element from afar, each of them having a personal Realm from which they can influence Grimmoirea and its inhabitants without changing the world first-hand, and so risking its balance. The power of a God is so strong that mere mortals cannot handle it, and so, to prevent total destruction, the deities keep their distance, as silent observers of the universe they influence without risking its annihilation.
Exception to this rule, actually, is on specific days of the year: during a single day, in which a festivity is held in their honor, the Gods can descend to Grimmoirea; they can take mortal form and walk between their subjects, being among them with a different appearance to experience how the people live, and feeling, for that single day each year, what mortals feel.
But if the Gods of Order have all these limits, all these restrictions to keep the wellbeing of the world, the God of Chaos doesn't follow such rules: being free to roam on land whenever he wants, Nyamuthep doesn't care about how he might influence the existence of mortals, or how much destruction he could cause, instead having created a secluded residence for himself and his direct followers, a cult of servants following each of his orders.
A creature of madness and disorder, following only his own rules.
Each Realm of a God is an area far far away from the mortal plane, a place where the deity can manipulate their element, and where they have absolute power on it. While being inside their Realm, the deities can control every single aspect of their concept, being able to manipulate it to its fullest, and where they can fullfill every desire, within their powers.
Normally people cannot enter these Realms, precluded to mortals, and in which they could meet personally the respective Gods... unless they are the Guardians of the Keys to the Realms.
Each God has a favorite, a person who caught their interest, someone who they find worthy of representing them in the mortal plane, and when they choose someone, or if someone becomes the owner of a Key, they become the Guardian of these artifacts.
Objects connected to the respective deity, that, other than giving access to the Divine Realms, grant supernatural abilities to their owners: each artifact awakens a dormant aspect of the Guardian, related to the respective God, blooming in their full potential, to then be the best representatives of the Gods.
Some know of such a task, other just live their lives unknowingly having this honor, but all serving a great purpose: creating a living and strong connection between the Gods and the mortal plane, giving the deities more space to influence the world and make it go on properly.
Amoreum: Taking place on February 14th, Amoreum is the celebration of Love and Peace. The blooming of Spring is welcomed with flower offerings in Heiwai's temples, in particular Jasmines, sacred to the God; it's custom, for the men in love, to gift their partner a Jasmine in this particular date, as it's said that doing this will grant Heiwai's blessing on the union, making it stronger than any challenge that may risk to ruin the couple.
Other than that, is popular belief that fighting during the day of Amoreum brings bad luck on who's taking part in it, reason why in this particular date, even during wars, the hostilities stop, to not bring misfortune over an army's deployment.
Variusai: Festivity that is celebrated during April 1st, Variusai is the day of the God of Magic. Following the chaotic nature of Magic, and of Nyamuthep, during Variusai is custom to make pranks to friends and family, a tradition mostly followed by kids all around Grimmoirea. If for the majority of species this festivity is a minor one, for Demons it's the most important of all: being on the same day their race was born, created by the God of Magic himself, Demons pray and thank their maker for their existence; for all of them is tradition, at least once during their life, to do a pilgrimage to the depths of the Barrows of La Flamme in the day of Variusai, to obtain the blessing of Nyamuthep. A small part of the God's power, to give them strenght and help them in forming a physical body of their own.
Bellumia: Taking place on August 15th, Bellumia is the festivity of War, in honor of Guerrilla. Fighters from all over the world gather in the town of Guertuga -settlement built around a crater, said to be the spotlight of the battle between the Goddess of War and an equal foe-, and a battle royale is held: Bellumia's Festival. Anyone who wants to fight is welcomed to take part in it, the crater of Guertuga being the scenario of such a battle, where only one person will be the winner: a victor worthy of Guerrilla's blessing. A ceremony held in a secluded temple in Guertuga, that is said to grant protection, from the Goddess to the champion, in any battle they'll take part in until the next Festival.
Morsilim: The Day of Death, taking place on October 31st, and celebration of Enferus. In this day, the veil between the world of the living and the Underworld is said to be thinner, giving to who's alive the chance to be heard from their loved ones who passed away. It's tradition to take Asphodels to the tombs of who you lost, to give them the blessing of Enferus, and help their spirits to be safe and sound in the afterlife, as well as lighting an ebon candle, for the ones who passed away recently, to guide them towards redemption in the Underworld, lighting up their path.
It's custom, for both kids and adults, to wear monstrous costumes to keep evil spirits and demons away from graveyards, in a way to prevent them to hurt the souls of the dead, or to snatch them from their eternal rest.
Yulivitas: The celebration of Life, held up in honor of Yulelin on December 31st. Bridge between the end of an year, and the beginning of the new one, between the last days of Winter, and the first days of Spring, Yulivitas is a day of joy and happiness: families gather all together to spend time, and it's custom to have a great lunch or dinner, with the fruits of the year's harvest, all in grand fashion, to thank the God of Life for the good year, and praying for the next one to be prosperous.
Mistletoe is sacred to Yulelin and this holiday, and to obtain the blessing of the dragon deity, it's custom to plant it during Yulivitas, and if it sprouts within the few next days, it's considered as proof of the God's benevolence.
