It's not too much their personalities...well, okay, it is for Shrike. And his voice. ESPECIALLY his voice. You're not supposed to have a main character that is annoying to hear. That's the best way to turn new viewers away from your show. I was only able to stick it out this far because of the female characters they introduced in the first ep, and them making reappearances.
The characters in the show do have some easily recognizable designs, but not to the degree where they're garish, which is a fine line to walk and I appreciate that.
