One of the first things that came to mind. Good inspiration! But now I'm speculating how the blade could be formed. Good sign, as I try to take apart and speculate about fiction that I like. After all, no point on wasting calories thinking about fictional universes I am meh about. XD
I consider that the greatest compliment!
The sword has a mono-molecule blade, so it's not truly an energy weapon, but very similar in practice. It can be kindled or extinguished with the press of a button, slice through most matter with ease, and is effectively indestructible. In universe, they're incredibly rare and expensive, but Arun is a collector and managed to get her hands on one.

Sorry for making that reply chain so long, but I'm too much of a nerd not to reply. That is cool, and I like the way you think!
It also coincides with the second thing that came to my mind when I saw that blade, Deus Ex. The sword you could get in that game to be specific. It was a nanomachine formed monomolecular blade. Some magnetic fields might also have been involved to help keep the blade material in place when active, might be wrong, my memory is fuzzy on the details... Damn, it was such a long time since I've played that...

Thank you! I love the concept of updating medical/renaissance plate armor to a sci-fi setting~
When I was concepting this I went back and reviewed my old armor designs. I think I've definitely improved over the years, and this version is easily my favorite, but man my tastes really haven't changed much! Lol
