This relief print linocut depicts three furries on stage acting out a scene from Bertolt Brecht's 1940 play "Herr Puntila und Sein Knecht Matti". The title comes from the first line of Matti's monologue in the 12th and final scene: it means "The Hour of Farewell". Despite that, the scene depicted is actually Scene 2. The beagle on the left is playing Eva, the bird in the middle is Matti, and the bear on the right is playing Puntila. They are fighting over Matti in the middle. The art style is purposefully drawing upon a history of German Expressionism.
I made this for a printmaking elective course. It was my first ever relief print, and also my largest to-date. At the same time, I was also taking part in a student production of "Herr Puntila", playing the role of Eva. I made this to say farewell to both university and to my time in the play. I made it furry because I had been playing with depicting typically digital aesthetics (such as furry) in print, and wanted to blend furry art with German expressionism. It is a largely personal piece, combining two disparate cultural touchstones that felt relevant to me and my experiences in my final semester of university.
