yeah hot glue & cardboard!!
get a box cutter for cuttin cardboard. masking tape to hold things in place while the hot glue sets. use any shapes and duplicate them so you have two of the same shape, and use that to make the thing symmetrical. they're really durable once you have a few layers built up! triangles are yr friend :]
