These were both a gift to a good and supportive friend, as well as an experiment in more detailed custom horns. I've been working on them on and off since before Xmas, and I'm very proud of the result. :)
They're modelled after rocketdog's main character Kast, seen here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/4829746/
The pics of them being worn aren't going up on FA, but they are available elsewhere. I've got them on my Facebook and homepage gallery, but will blog about it all properly at some point in the next couple of days.
I'm extremely happy to say they fit materially and proportionally. Both that they fit Kast herself and do so in a way that matches the proportions of her character. :)
Close up shots can be found in the scraps gallery, here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/6226586/
The horns are calcium-carbonate reinforced polyurethane resin. There's a thin outer coloured shell with a reinforcing black layer inside for strength and show up the markings. Inside those there's a layer of clear resin on one side only, tinted translucent yellow. A quick layer of white resin up the opposite inside face acts as a light reflector.
The runes were engraved by hand with a Dremel and patience. There were a few minor slips, but nothing I couldn't correct for. The worst issue was probably the leak of the translucent resin while curing, the drip marks of which I couldn't full remove from the base of the horns. You can see the remaining traces in the detail montage.
Each horn has two LEDs in, carefully sanded down and positioned to try and produce as even a light as possible. At best estimate, there's about 80mA of current draw, so the two Alkaline AA batteries should be able to run it for about 30hours straight.
I made sure the hat fitted her in advance before I cut the holes out.
I may make custom horns to order at some point in the future, but I'm working on producing basic horns a lot better first, and hope to have general types ready to sell in month or two once I've got a better roto-casting setup made.
