The Planker is a strange yet iconic firearm that looks more like a wooden plank than a gun, complete with a trigger, barrel, nail-like design, and a P90-style top magazine. Originally inspired by a forgotten 1915 British rifle patent, it was rediscovered and reimagined by Thanoid Action LLC in 2060, where it quickly became their second-best-selling weapon. Over the years it evolved through multiple variants, including extended mags, trench models, riot control versions, and even experimental laser and coil conversions. Despite its odd appearance, the Planker earned both cult status and military contracts, proving that sometimes even a block of wood can become a legendary weapon.

Extended lore and description

A unique, looking firearm that almost looks like a piece of wood like straight up it looks like a plank of wood with a trigger and a barrel and a antenna piece on the back the weapon also seems to use a p90 style magazine the top and it’s in case wood but one pulled out it looks also strangely like a nail and on closer inspection the logo thanoid action llc can be found on the side of despite looking like a piece of wood, it actually fires and works somehow so the weird question is who made this P90 out of wood well this is what we’re gonna find out today. Sometime around November 15, 1915 a patent, for a strange, British self-loading rifle prototype, by someone named Anderson, despite the patent itself existing there doesn’t seem to be any records of an existing physical prototype, or of it even being built so it is not known what happened after word, but it did sit around however sometime around December 15 2055 a company thanoid action llc was looking for weapon to make however, John Thanoid didn’t have any ideas in mind despite having a successful launch of the thunder and the tall-81 he wanted something that could ride the tail code of his recent successes so desperate for ideas he decided to look for some outdated patents and then eventually, he came across the strange British self-loading rifle from 1915 what he saw, amazed him despite looking like a P90 it seemed a unique enough that they could definitely use it as a base, so John thanoid printed it out immediately and sent it down to the engineering department and well after they saw the patent, they were kind of confused and ask John thanoid what the heck are we supposed to do with this and well John said that they needed to make it now because we made too cool weapons and we need to make another and will after some back-and-forth. The engineering department said will get back to you on it and so they went to work eventually there were many different Prototypes one with a speed loader mechanism, another version that used to clips and finally one version that used P90 like magazines after they showed the three Prototypes John thanoid he liked the P90 magazine one, but he had one thing to ask could you make it shaped like a nail and call it a nailloader and well they did just that and John was pretty happy with the results and he also noticed that there was enough space for a extended magazine so he asked if they could make one of those and after some back-and-forth eventually did, and they were also surprised on how well it fits after John thanoid go to a look he realize they had somethings so eventually they decided to show it off at a gun show around 2060 and well let’s just say when people sell the weapon and asked about it John told everyone that it was a experimental p90 like weapon that was a extremely retro throwback the early 20th and people were amaze and well eventually a robot saw it and well the robot called it is a planker and for some reason the stuck with John so much that eventually after the gun show once they got back the headquarters, John finally decided to it was time to release it so after some back-and-forth eventually, the weapon was released to the public and well, they lovingly gave it the name the planker and it was advertised as a P90, like weapon with an extendable magazine as well as a throwback to the early 20th century end to say that this weapon sold well was an understatement. It was actually thanoid actions second best selling weapon behind the thunder and because it did so well, the British army decided to ask for a contract for the weapon which John thanoid gladly, took the offer, and a special version with special modifications were sent across seas John realize that this thing could see some actual military use so he tried to get a US military contract, however, this failed due to the military, seeing it too much as a gimmick and them already having the P90 and the 12.7mm submachine gun, despite the British army contract, they were unable to get a US contract so they went back to the drawing board and decided to get back to work. Eventually they tried different versions and made some different modifications like a drum magazine. However, one guy had the idea that it could use similar parts to an already existing weapon on the field john thanoid , thought this idea was actually kind of genius, and they went to work Eventually they chose a weapon which they called the service rifle and well let’s just say they managed to get some compatible parts with the weapon well and then they decided to have a second trial for the weapon so they can land that military contract so the new trial started around 2073 and eventually the US military caved in and realize that this weapon actually could survive the cold climates Alaska and was reliable enough to not break, and also because of the new versions modifications that had similar parts to already existing weapons they decided to take it, and they also commissioned a trench variant which was made in the weapon officially got deployed around September 23 2077, not to mention if you were giving to please stations for riot control as well a few other modifications were made however all production was halted due to the events of October 23, 2077 a.k.a. the great war, however not too long after words around 2107 production started up again and well let’s just say it was one of the first weapons that was able to be made just due to how easy and reliable it was to make and well John thanoid and thanoid action llc was able to pump these weapons out for years to come eventually sometime around 2279 a version that was converted into a laser weapon and had a special robot head on. It was stolen by the rust devils and stored in the fort, Hagan satellite array where it stayed for years and on the West Coast the the US military variant of the planker saw a reproduction due to the battle of Hoover dam thanoid action supplied both gunrunners in the NCR and well you know how that story goes eventually around 2285 they made a highly experimental coil version of the weapon as the last modification before selling that modification across the US and a guide on how to make and after all is said, and done, the weapon was still being manufactured even around 2287 and beyond, and that’s the legacy of the planker a weapon that might just look like a piece of wood but it’s a pretty cool piece of wood I guess and so yeah that’s about it.
