Did you know that spider silk is stronger than steel?
...Well, it's not that simple.
You see, because of the molecular makeup of spider silk, it is allowed to expand and contract like a rubber band without breaking too easily. The "strength" of a material varies in what exactly it is purposefully good at. Ergo, bricks are sturdy and make great foundations but shatter with blunt force, and metal is durable but can deform over time.
It's not exactly an exact comparison to relate spider silk to steel, but it is an elegant one when trying to explain how durable spider silk is.
