I think I was noticing before drawing this that like, the expectation of making a finished piece frequently keeps me from just sketching freely
I keep fixating on what the final piece will be and what larger more detailed illustration it should be part of, when all I really want to do is draw Janelle in some shorts

I feel this deeply as well. Before I started drawing for this account, I never did color, backgrounds or sometimes even construction lines. I’ve grown a lot as an artist because of it but also, I have gigabytes of unfinished sketches because I had a fun idea that I dreaded having to create a palate or backgrounds for, or to do linecleanup for. The standards we set for ourselves when we are so happy to see other people’s sketches 😅

Exactly, I looove seeing artists' basic sketches. It doesn't take much to get a shape and gesture across, and that's like 80% of what's appealing about a piece a lot of the time haha. And yet I still catch myself thinking people won't want to see just a sketch from me 😑
